My boyfriend wants 2 kegs of beer, but I don't like beer, so we're also planning to have a bar with a choice of a few different mixed drinks, complete with a bartender.

I like Tequila Sunrise and Sloe Screws, so those are already on the list, but I'd like to have about 10 options. I'm not a big drinker, so I don't know many drinks. If you were choosing the mixed drinks, which ones would you choose?

Also, I've never used a keg before. How many people would one keg serve? Or I guess the more appropriate question would be how many cups will one keg fill?

No one I know likes Champagne, and it's not going to be a typical reception anyway, since it's taking place a month after we're eloping.

And since I've obviously already decided to include alcohol in the party, there's no sense responding if you're going to tell me you think it's a bad idea.

We're having it at his parents house, and we'll be purchasing all the alcohol ourselves (probably with a kick-in from our friends and family).

Congrats first of all. and as far as the booze, sometimes its good to price around for a place that has a bar so your not flipping the cost of all that is consumed. Or, some places have an open bar with a price per head, or one flat rate. And the final option is a BYOB (Bring your own booze) can be an option. As far as how many cups are in a Keg...depends on the drinker's and size of cups....:)

Understood....Depending on who is there....Get good whisky's such as scotch, Blended, American, Candian. Then some Rum (Both Lite and dark), Vodka. Then have your Soda's Coke, Pepsi, 7up, etc. A blender, Ice, Fruit and a good bartender....mix toghether and have a blast!

People that say you shouldn't have alcohol have no self control around it, just because there is alcohol there does not mean everyone will end up drunk, most sensible responsible adults know when to stop.

We are having:

Beer
Wine
Champagne
Pimms Cocktail
Pear Cider
Water
Fruit juices
Soft drinks
tea/coffee

We are not having spirits other than Pimms as they cost so much money that we just don't have the budget, however, upon checking things out with our guests they all drink wine and beer anyway, and most of them drink Pimms and Champagne.

I'm sorry I know nothing about kegs, I have never even seen one, maybe you don't get the where I live??

A full keg has 35 gallons. about 250 pints, plenty of beer. I wouldn't get too cute with the mixed drinks.
Gin, Vodka, Whiskey, Tequila,
OJ, Cola, 7up, sour mix

Get a good idea of your crowd. One bad drunk can ruin the party. When in doubt do Champagne only.

My fave mixed drink is a Fuzzy Navel.

Not sure how many one keg would serve, how many people do you plan to invite?

We had a full open bar, and didn't plan mixed drinks. The bartender could mix them if people requested them. We hosted 200 people, so our liquor store was helpful in assessing the amount of booze to buy, and they were pretty close. Check if your liquor store will allow you to return unopened bottles - ours did.

Wow, if you have to get people to drink at your reception to have a good time, then I think there might be a few issues.

Think about it. Why would you ever want people to drink around an important event.

Either way, my $0.02, so dont bash me for it.
