We are wanting to finish it but are unsure of what Building Permits we'd need... I don't think we need one to put up the partition wall in the basement... but do we need one for electrical and plumbing, could we do it all ourselves just not hook it up and have an electrician come in and do it? Does that count? Any sites or anything you have would help... oh ya I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada... THANKS!

The walls are just inside walls.. no outside walls... and why would you need a permit if you do? Especially to build a wall...its not load bearing.. sounds kinda silly to me...

Buddy ! hate to tell you this but you need a permit, just to put up the outside walls, and they have to be inspected before you put up the drywall. They want to know that you have the proper insulation on the outside as well as the proper vapor barrier. as for your electrical, and plumbing you really need your permits before you touch it. Yes it can be checked by a licensed guy but you should try and contact the guy before you start. He may be able to give you a few hints.
Sorry , forgot to mention > Building codes and permits are there to keep everyone safe . If you don`t care about the guy installing the wires with the ground missing . Why should you care.Until your daughter plugs in her phone and gets electrocuted

You/he are going to sell the house some day or fall down dead and your/his estate have to dispose of it and the buyer is going to want to know that what is hidden in the walls was done properly.
