How old are you? If you are over 14, you don't need parental consent. In fact, confidentiality laws say your parents don't even have to know you sought treatment.

Nope. At least, not in Canada, I don't know about where you live, but it is probably the same. All you have to do is ask the school counsellor for help, tell them exactly what is on your mind, and ask if they can arrange for you to see a doctor. Then, tell the doctor straightforward what is going on, he will give you a questionairre, fill it out honestly, and then the two of you will discuss it. He'll probably give you a sampler pack or two of antidepressants, and if those work for you, you'll probably have to pay for an actual prescription later, although my doctor made an exception for me and gave me like fifty thousand sampler packs because he knew that my family was poor. :)
Just whatever you do, don't let him prescribe a drug called Paxil, because if you decide to stop taking it, the withdrawal symptoms are the worst thing in the world, I'm not even joking.
Also, it takes around two weeks for it to start working. DO NOT STOP TAKING THEM JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE WORKING. It takes two weeks or longer. Wait out the two weeks.

Probably. You can do a search on depression on the Internet and also here on Yahoo Answers. There are some solutions that are effective that don't require a parent. Health food stores may have products that could help you.

First of all, A minor has to have a parent's consent in order to receive any type of treatment unless life or death - and even then, I don't know what the laws are on that in the last 14 years since I got out of healthcare...
Secondly, Any doctor will be scared of malpractice suits..
Last - as a parent, I would want to be able to help any one of my children with anything they have to face throughout their lives - whether it be depression, health, finances, children, marriage, sickness, or happy times... it's just the best part of being a parent - we love you and want to be there for you...
Don't jip your parents out of being allowed to be part of your life... include them and ask their opinions...
God Bless and Good Luck!

So how do you know you need them, then? I'm sorry, I'm just tired of everybody going on "happy pills" because something in their lives is going crappy and they don't feel like dealing with the issues, instead they want to take the easy way out. In my opinion at least a half of people on them really shouldn't be. But to answer your answer, I'd like to think you need to have your parents agree that you should be on them.
