foot tattoos are something that one should not go lightly into. they take a degree of planning, you can't really wear any shoes besides flip-flops for three weeks without seriously risking messing up your new tattoo. they take longer to heal than normal tattoos, and tend to fade faster due to constant movement-especially in that spot.
i have a foot tattoo, which i love, but i had to do it when i had time off from work. it hurt much worse than my ribs, which most people will say is one the most painful spots to get tattooed. my foot was swollen for 3 days and it hurt to walk.
as for what you actually get tattooed, that is a completely personal decision. if you decide you want butterflies, remembering its a forever thing, then by all means, get butterflies! the only correct answer for what you get tattoed isn;t going to be found on the internet.

Hey. im wanting to get a foot tattoo also. i want some footprints to represent the footprints in the sand poem. BUT i asked a similar question, they all said that the pain is different to everyone. it mainly depends on your pain tolerance and mind set.
But they do take longer to heal, since it is further away from your heart and it doesnt get as good of a circulation as other places. Dont wear socks or regular shoes for at least about 2 weeks, try wearing flip flops when you need shoes, and keep your foot elevated as much as you can for a few days. It will be a little painful to walk on for a few days too.
Also, keep in mind that if you get it at certain places on your foot, it might fade a little faster because of your shoe may rub aganst it.
If its a small tattoo, i have heard that it may blur a little, expecially on the foot.

I have a tattoo on the top of my foot, up by my toes. I didn't think it hurt at all, at least compared to the one on my back. The butterflies or stars is a cute idea.
I would avoid getting light colors or light shading on the foot. Feet tattoos tend to fade quicker because your shoes and socks rub on it and the ink can break down and lighten. Ask your artist what he/she thinks it best for your situation.

The star pic isnt showing! Sorry
I wanted a foot tattoo but my friend got one and she said it hurt really bad because the skin is so soft and sensitive there. Her skin was raised for almost 2 days afterwards and was really red...looked like she had been burnt

That's a good place-it's hidden & not in sight. I got my first tattoos on both forearms for free & the tattooist did a crappy job, I had one covered & the other large one is a deformed naked woman that I had fixed twice but it's still no good, I gotta design a pattern to cover it someday-(by a pro & it's gonna cost about $2-300+. bucks but it's worth it. (anyways, if you get a free tattoo offered by a stranger, don't expect the best.)

It hurts, besides why get a tattoo anyway? It might be exciting at first but that wears off when you are old and have wrinkled skin with a tattoo. There is nothing uglier than an old person with a tattoo. And you want that? They have tattoos that can be washed off ya know. That'll be your best bet.
