Typically after she starts her second week in heat which is when you see the blood you should put her with the male every other day until she is through the second week. This should give you a better idea of when the pups will be born if she takes. People think every breeder is a bad breeder don't listen to them. If you have any other questions let me know. Im a vet tech and a future breeder of bloodhounds so ive done my research on breeding.

If your vet is on board, then do what you wish. You'll want to ask him though, I think GSD (the one who said a week after she bleeds) would know some tips. Other than that, pick up a book on breeding (or look up info on line) about breeding your specific breed. The info may be able to tell you.

There is a lot more involved to breeding your dog than just letting her get pregnant. I would miss this time, and check some books out on how to take care of her before, during, and after she whelps. There are complications that can cause your dog her and her puppies lives if not done responsibly. Did you know your dog could die after giving birth from a calcium deficiency? Do you know what you do if your dog goes into whelping and has a puppy get stuck and know the signs of it? Do you know you are not to touch the puppies as this can cause the mother dog to abandon her puppies because she does not recognize their smell any longer? Do you know how to feed them and what to feed them if she should die?

Dogs are not like humans in that they get pregnant AFTER menstruation, they get pregnant while in heat. So like some one above said, the second week would be the best bet.

Well you need to show her if you want to be a responsible breeder and you need to get helth testing done (OFA hips, elbows, eyes, and thyroids)
