I actually just read an article about how to "decode" expiration dates and when to throw foods out in a magazine called ShopSmart. For most dairy products they recommended the item be thrown out within a week after the visible expiration date on the package. This is due to the fact it may appear ok but bacteria is taking over which can cause serious illness if digested!

Check out www.thirdage.com There is a whole section dealing with what the expiration date means. You will not necessarily become ill from eating expired foods. Sometimes, there just won't be as much nutrients in the food after the expiration date. You can still eat foods after the expiration date, but the stores can't sell them after that date... hope that website helps!

Usually it can like milk- be safe for a couple of days after expiration date- depends on the taste. It will go sour anyway. I sometimes use mine as a marinate a day after it has expired.

That's some leaniate stuff right there. I wouldn't trust experied anything, espicaially yogurt. Yogurt has live cultures in it and when they wack out on expeiration I wouldn't not put them down my throat! My brother kept yogurt for longer than six days, almost 3 weeks to be right and the entire contents molded into a half green half orange sponge, we couldn't even light it on fire and had to flush it in regards to tossing it in the trash! Dude, if you have eaten it, you'll probably be just fine, but I wouldn't walk down that road again!

If there is no mold on it, eat it. They usually are quite careful with expiration dates, and you can often use stuff a week or so past.

Your nose knows. If something shouldn't be eaten, your nose will tell you. The date that is stamped on any container at the store, be it milk, bread, yogurt, meats, etc... is the SELL BY date. It is not the date of expiration.

Don't eat it if it is fuzzy, but most dairy projects are good for 7 days after their expiration.
