Sounds like you are talking about IKEA. They don't have a whole lot of retail stores, only the major-est of major cities so it is fortunate that you are in Houston because there is one there. (I live an hour north of Houston.) They also have a huge website, where if you find something online that isn't in the store, then you might be able to have it shipped to the store for free, they would just throw your stuff on the truck going to that store.

Their stuff isn't top of the line and you do have to build much of it yourself, but if you have a little patience, you save a lot of money. And their designs are very Euro and modern looking, hip and trendy.

For other options, come north, and hit a flea market or a resale shop or an outlet...there are tons of these things up here. You won't have websites to check in advance, but you will find real furniture and you can dicker for the best price. And part of the fun for most people who shop these places is the whole discovery of something you didn't expect to find that just happens to be perfect...if you are willing to design on the fly or after you find that piece that needs to be worked in. Bring a pickup or an SUV and a fist full of small bills.

Some other national chains that are pretty reliable for furniture with low prices: Rooms to Go, Big Lots, Tuesday Morning, Target.
