Hi I have 4 female cats. When they come in heat, they usually get noisy, especially at night. They roll around and rub against the furniture. they stare at you and want you to pet them. they usually stay in heat for about 4-7 days, then get quiet for 3-4 weeks. then they come back in.
At the vaginal opening there is sometimes a slight clear discharge. If you touch their rear end they may crawl along the floor and flash their tail back and forth or hold it to the side.
I hope this helps. The main sign for most of them is "The Noise" It's a terrible Howl, like something is killing them. But some of them are fairly quiet. It depends on the cat.

Before mine were spayed, I knew they were in heat because they would moan incessantly (almost painful sounding), roll around and brush up against things a lot... their eyes became quite glossy and sort of "dreamy" (?) looking...their behinds seemed to have minds of their own- My cats crawled along the carpet with their butts in the air (you'll probably know it when you see it)... and they marked their territory by urinated on the carpet (which led me to have them spayed very quickly!). If you have an indoor cat, her being in heat should be very obvious. Generally, it is hard to tolerate an indoor cat that is not spayed.

On a personal note, I adopted both of mine from a little girl with a box of kittens outside a grocery store parking lot (they were on their way to a shelter if she could not give them away). I've had them for 10 years and they are beautiful and so loving- they're like my kids! I would recommend adoption to anyone over breeding- so many cats are euthanized everyday or live a pretty rough existance on the streets. The humane society often conducts spay/neuter clinics for free!

My parents are vets and I've had many cats both male and female, she'll be in heat when she starts meowing differently and she'll stay near the windows and doors. Also, male cats will be attracted to your home. Good luck with the mating, and be responsible with the Kittens.

There is an overwhelming pet population and a lot of animals are put to sleep everyday, so I would not reccomend breeding any animal unless you are a licensed breeder.

But to answer your question, right before a cat goes into heat they become very affectionate and may follow you everywhere and want lots of attention. Then they will arch their back and meow, that menas they are in heat.

Please do more research and talk to your vet before breeding.

Why on earth mate her? If you can go to sleep every night knowing more cats (already thousands of them per month) get KILLED because people just want to breed their cats for the fun of it, you don't have any heart at all.

Trust me, you'll know! It's unmistakable. She will make a horrible, high-pitched, urgent meowing cry constantly and will squirm around on the carpet and act very agitated. She will also want to be petted a lot and hold her butt high in the air when you pet her.

each cat is different, normal signs are howling or more meowing than usual, sticking her butt up in the air and wiggling it, rolling around on the floor, trying to get out the door more than usual, you could also try to pat or rub her just above her tail and if she sticks her butt up and head down then she is probably ready

if she is an inside cat and she suddenly starts crying alot, wants more loving than usual and raises her backside in the air when you scratch her back, then she's in heat..

Normally she will be in a loving mood! Will rub on stuff alot. And meow really loud in a deep voice. Good luck!♥

by that annoying meow she will make.. that constant urge to want to go outside.. and the fact that more male cats will be showing up around your house.
