"The world is good. Prosperity is good. Life is good, and we should live it with joy and enthusiasm.

We are free to shape our lives to the extent allowed by our skill, courage, and might. There is no predestination, no fatalism, no limitations imposed by the will of any external deity.

We do not need salvation. All we need is the freedom to face our destiny with courage and honor."

*Drighten McNallen, Asatru Folk Assembly*

Your thoughts please?

I wasn't going to respond, as you can probably guess how I feel about the quote, but after reading all the "OMG u needz teh jezus!!!!!!!!!!!11111111" I just have to.

I agree wholeheartedly. We do not need salvation, because there is nothing to be saved from. We do not need forgiveness, because we have not wronged anyone. We are not mindless slaves to the gods, nor do they want that. We are our own persons, and are free to make our own choices and live with the consequences of our actions. I know that concept frightens Xians to death, but, well, for us it's kind of a relief.

The gods are our friends and our Elder Kin. They do not live our lives for us. They help us sometimes when we need help, they guide us sometimes when we need guidance, but there is no imaginary devil for them to save us from (not even Lauffey's son!). They expect us to stand before them proudly and on our own two feet. If Odin wanted mindless automatons he would not have given people wits.

Hail the Aesir, hail the Vanir.

As for Xians... ignore them.

I agree with this.

I find that many people see prosperity as a bad thing. You know money is evil. Though prosperity is not only about money.

Freedom to shape our lives is ours. We are given this and yet many will put limits on all parts of their lives. Most of the time it's because of what we are taught as children. We are told we can't do more. Not in so many words but by watching what is around us. We put these limits on ourselves.

Salvation, who is to say what salvation is? Don't give me the crap out of the bible, it's written by man and man wanted power over each other. We are able to live our lives as we chose. I personally like to believe that most of us chose to be good people. We chose to not be evil. So we don't need a religion telling us we need salvation.

I could not agree more.

I lack joy but not enthusiasm.

There are no limitations except those we place on ourselves for whatever our reasons.

The last part is my favorite.

"We DO NOT need salvation" SO TRUE!

"All we need is freedom to face our destiny with courage and honor".

Lovely thought and also true. Courage is aquired through hardship. Honor is an admirable goal for all of us to live by.

Thanks for sharing this great quote.

Boar darlin' how dare you expose these poor lost souls to enlightenment and wisdom! You know that they have a serious problem comprehending this! Shame on you! ; )

Courage to stand out in a crowd and speak the truth...now what has that ever got anyone besides being burned at the stake!

Maybe that's why I like you! ; )

What great timing! I just finished reading Seamus Heaney's retelling of the classic Anglo-Saxon heroic poem "Beowulf" in modern English.

While it's hardly an original thought, I can sum up my feelings regarding Stephen McNallen's statement pretty succinctly:

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

Wassail!

When my personal beliefs became challenged over & over by those who felt theirs were superior to mine or to those of others, I was inspired to begin my quest for the truth. I have finally come to the conclusion that we are all born with the right to believe what we want, without imposing our beliefs upon others, or others imposing their beliefs upon anyone else.

Wouldn't this be a great place if everybody lived and believed this way, as well as, let others do the same if they so choose?
