im asking because im learning how to pierce and ive been wondering about this question all night..

Aside from it being basic anatomy, in dental school we were warned about the tongue because when you lift it up and see that piece of skin (frenum) on both sides is a vein and an artery. If you cut off the tongue, you can and will bleed really fast and really hard. That's why you shouldn't get your tongue pierced, not all piercing parlours care or even know about these veins/arteries.

Yes. The tongue has both veins and arteries that you can't see. I took Anatomy and Physiology in college. The tongue is basically a muscle and all muscles have a blood supply with veins and arteries.

DO NOT pierce anyone's tongue until you've received thorough instruction particuliar to tongues. It's not like the ear or eyebrow; do it wrong, and you could spend the rest of your life in prison for Manslaughter.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but that's how dangerous bleeding and the tongue can be.
