Yes, there is definitely a difference. A thin person can have big bones - I've known some very skinny people whose wrist bones, for example, were really wide, and some people have wider rib cages or hip bones than most, but no extra fat on them. "Overweight" refers to someone who is carrying extra fat, and thus weighs more than does an ordinary person of the same height.

Yes there is a difference. I am big boned but I also am overweight. Even if I were to lose a lot of weight I would never be really skinny due to the size of my rib cage or the size of my hip bones, arm bones and leg bones. And by the sounds of it a girl your age should not be worrying about her weight. I don't get why I see a ton of questions by girls today about their weight? When I was growing up, people that age didn't worry about their weight. But even so, talk to your doctor about your concerns. He could tell you what is average for your age/height.

being "big-boned" is usually just an excuse that people make (like Cartman on South Park), but there are differences in people's bone structures. if you have broad shoulders and hips, then you are designed to be a bigger person. someone with the same height and weight who has a smaller frame will probaby look narrower from a front view, but will have fat deposits in their stomach, thighs, etc. this person's body is not designed to hold that much weight, so it just sticks the fat wherever it can. my instinct tells me that this is much less healthy, but i'm not sure.

some people do have a larger frame than others, and it can influence how much weight you should be carrying, just like your height makes a difference. But yes, definately check with a doctor

My father was big-boned. When he was skeletal before he died he still weighed 180 lbs at 6'1". His head was too big for any hat.
When we say someone is overweight, we are referring to the fat he carries around.

yes there is a difference. to me it depend on your body fat percentage rather than how much you weigh. some people weigh more cause theyre big boned and tall with a low percentage and other weigh less cause they are smaller boned and short and they could have a bigger percentage.

There is no such thing as big boned. But you do not sound overweight! You sound average for your age and if you think youre chubby....its baby fat and it will disappear soon, dont worry!

the size of the skeletal system has no effect on body composition or the amount of muscle and fat that a person has. the body composition is the end result of exercise (or lack there of) and the diet, that is basic human biology
