if its not used for muscle building, than what happens to it?

the body does not convert excess proteins to fatty acids at a high enough rate to cause fat storage. the body spends more energy digesting proteins then converting the excess amino acids to glucose then again to a lipid then is obtained.

the body does not readily waste energy. it takes one gram of amino acids to produce one unit of ATP where one molecule of fat can provide a hundred units of ATP. this a basic function of energy conversion in the human body

If it's not utilized then it gets stored as fat just like any other carbohydrate or fat molecule.
