Can anyone out there please help me, by telling me how to increase my VIRTUAL MEMORY? Windows XP.?
My computer is a dell, wid 160mb Ram. I'm using windows XP operating system ..
I'm using it to get on the net, and for general normal usage and paying games I dont use it for for anything demanding, and the speed would suffice for me for what i do..
I never had to wait when pages opened up in the past, but recently its considerably much slower than it used to be, which was good enough for me..
It started freezing up frequently recently and getting much slower when oppening a page or a program up than before..with a little window popping up sometimes, telling me its a Virtual memory problem..
Can u please tell me how to increase my VIRTUAL MEMORY..and make my computer somewhat faster....
Thanking u in advance for ur help.

Right Click My Computer

Choose Properties

Go to Advanced

Select Settings for Performance.

Go to Advanced

Choose Change at the Bottom

Change the virtual memory maximum to whatever you'd like. Note that doing so uses free diskspace to act as the virtual memory so you'll be limiting your available hard drive space.

WinXP does a good job of managing your page file so you don't really need to adjust the page file size unless you want to. What you need is to do is to add more RAM----160 MB of RAM for a pc with WinXP is just not enough, you'll need at least 512 MB. You may also have too many services and apps running in the background, disable some those will free up quite a bit of RAM. Search Google for BlackViper Winxp services to find that infos. You can also download CCleaner (free) to clean out all the temp files and other craps. If you want to set your page file make sure you set the Min and Max with the same values. Set a bigger value than what you need, usually around 2 to 3 GB will work. Adding more RAM is the best way.

Firstly you dont have too much RAM, especially if you are playing games and running a lot of programs on your system. Besides this, you might want to see if your HDD is affected by low space and fragmentation. These are two reasons why the system can get slow and hang. It happens if you have been downloading stuff or simply adding or deleting lots of files.

The first thing to do to speed up pc and get rid of malwares and viruses is cleaning the registry with a program like CCLeaner http://bitly.com/1sW2dva
It's the best choice.
I hope it helps

I think what you need is a good anti-virus, a good spyware killer, and some cleaning up. I think you may have gotten some malware that's trying to sell you something.
