If Adam and Eve were the first people on the earth and were the only people in existence. How then do believers of the bible account for all the people and all the different cultural traits such as coloured skin that now exist in the world today.

I know I have just asked a question about god creating dinosaurs and I am not trying to pick fault with other peoples beliefs I simply want to understand and I am trying to wrestle with teh idea of certain things that just don't make sense to me.

The only way I can think that we could account for all the people on the earth today is that Adam and Even had children who then had children with each other and then with each other and so on. But to my knowledge this would account for incest which I believe the bible looks down on

(I do not agree with incest I am just pointing out the only way I could explain with my limited knowledge of the Christian faith and its teachings the amount of people on the earth so dont jump on me for it)

We are all inbred. Cain and Seth had sexual intercourse with their mother Eve and we are all descended from them. At least that is what the word of god says.

When Adam and Eve had many, many children over a very long period of time with absolutely pure (no defects) genetics, it would not be considered "incest" as it would be (and should be) very shortly thereafter and on to the present. After the first few marriages, of course, there were cousins in the very next generation, and soon far-flung relatives. We are all one race. Prejudice comes from the Darwinian viewpoint on race--which, by the way, Hitler eagerly embraced. If we aren't all one human family, then we can start feeling superior or hating others. Time magazine had an excellent article on the Mitochondrial DNA (the DNA that stays the same from parent to parent through the female)being traced back to one woman or "mother." They wouldn't admit that would be Eve, but who else? We are all related and our DNA proves that. How are there different skin colors, etc.? Well, when any group isolates itself--as in the case of a few families with somewhat darker skin moving to a different village, then THOSE genes are the dominant ones and there's a preponderance of a certain characteristic until it becomes dominant. This is a very dumb-downed explanation for a 400 page book on genetics. Do a little reading...I can't type all night!

Thank you for you fothright openness about this matter !!!

1. To answer your question on top of the pile, take the number 1 and double it 30 times and you will get an idea how fast the earth can fill up !!!

2.Adam and Eve were created as perfect human beings and the continuous exposure to the sun has a deliterous effect on our bodies over time. From perfect to less perfect. In a more perfect state sex would not create dummies, but it is theorized that prior to the flood the environment was more perfect as well !!! After the flood the earth spit up into various continents and people got seperated accordingly. Different environment takes its toll on the human gene pool !!!
3. The evidence for those people who lived 700 to 900 years
are really those cromagnan skeleton heads and bodies that have been found !!! See the book BURIED ALIVE for a more detailed treatment of this !!!
4. Incest was forbidden down the road of the flood after the sun had taken its toll on the gene pool !!!
5 The sun and different environmenats is my theory as to what happened to cause different races. How ever when we get to heaven and maybe even before these questions will be able to be answered more authoritatively. In the mean time keep looking up !!!

Jason...you can get alot of your questions answered by turning into the reading of Genesis in the Bible., also reading the Old Testament, which accounts in the beginning of life on earth, amongst many other events. The Bible is not a religion, Jason, the Bible is God's written word, written word inspired by God to men on earth. Remember that the creation of Adam and then Eve to be his companion, was made by God for them both to populate earth. Incest did take place then , as it was not seen evil for a brother to marry his sister, or other things.. Which came to be taken down with the institution of the 10 Commandments.

Adam and Eve were frutiful and multipled greatly. They had many sons and daughters. It was not considered incest because the bloodlines were still pure.
there was only one man at the beginning—made from the dust of the Earth (Genesis 2:7).

This also means that Cain’s wife was a descendant of Adam. She could not have come from another ‘race’ of people and must be one of Adam’s descendants.
We are not told when Cain married or any of the details of other marriages and children, but we can say for certain that some brothers had to marry their sisters at the beginning of human history.

‘And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.’10 In other words, all people are descendants of Adam and Eve—she was the first woman.

Adam and Eve had children with each other, as Eve was the mother of all the living God told them to be fruitful and multiply and they did

The Bible mentions that Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain Abel and Seth so the sons did initially marry the daughters

They had sufficient genetic diversity between them for the races we see and being created good and perfect initially before the fall their children would not need the same safeguards we do today thousands of years later due to the larger amount of harnful genetic mutations thorugh the centuries

The daughters of Adam and Eve were taken as wives by the Sons of God, so there's an extra gene pool

We also don't know what God concocted.

Was Eve Blonde Blue eyed.

Was Adam dark skinned and brown eyes.

We don't truly know there is no great desciption.

Also most Christians don't dispute the concepts of Genetics and even Evolution, except for the RANDOM ACCIDENTAL aspects.

Thus as people moved away they changed as their environments changed.

How does evolution explain it.

Blacks come from Gorrillas

Albinos and Red Heads from Oranguatangs

Whites from Chimps

Can Gorriilas impregante chimps

Can chimps produced babies with Gorillas and Organtagans

The nicest, most inoffensive and smartest animal on Earth is the Porpus or Dolphin, which is a MAMAL FISH LIKE CREATURE

If I was going to pick an animal to evolve from, I'd prefer them over Chimps and Gorillas!

I wouldn't take NEARLY as much offense if you told me I came from a porpous or dolphin.

I have respect for that animal, at least.

A hairy ape, Sorry, I can't buy into that.

Yes Adam and Eve were the only people on earth at the first time. Then they had so many children because at that time there was not birth control.Their children had so many skin color white, black, dark brown and light brown. Their bodies were handsome, beauty and ugly..They married cross a handsome brother married his ugly sister and the beautiful sister married an ugly brother. and also in other skin color
They spread out after married to so many directions and both of them (spouse) gave birth so many children too.The increa
se of people every year like a geometry so in short time they grew so many people and they became a certain race with their own language and culture.Incest at that time was an emergency and could be forgiven by Allah the only one God.
Allah gave them the obligation for being a good leader in this earth,no bloodshed and no destruction, love and help each other for developing a prosperous communities./societies.

There is only one way that could be achieved...incest. Makes you wander why more people weren't born with the birth defects that we get today from incest doesn't it. Or was that just left out of the bible stories?

To the lady that said there where more people outside the Garden: could you please give us a place in the bible to look that up? I don't recall there ever being any mention of more people then Adam and Eve at that time.

Jason. I think your question is a good one.But I also think your forgetting two important points. The first is communication. By that I mean there are large omissions in the bible and early literature of periods of time. These periods can be several hundred years apart.Plenty of time for all that Begatting they talk about in the bible. The other point relates to the bible. We are, according to the good book descended from the 12 tribes of Israel.Within those tribes would have been people of all colour groups. So it is not surprising modern man consists of different skin and ethnic families.

Scientists agree that the first hominids were black-skinned. This is due to the fossil evidence indicating that hominids began in equatorial Africa, and a scientific principle (the name escapes me,) that stipulates indigenous people from that region will have higher melanin content in their skin. As a population moves further from that region, the need for the body to become more efficient at synthesizing Vitamin D leads to skin with lower melanin content.

So yes - Adam and Eve is a fairytale, but the first humans were black Africans, and as populations migrated, those with lighter skin were more successful at surviving.

EDIT: back to Adam and Eve - it is a popular misunderstanding of the story in Genesis that A&E were the only two humans made by יהוה, and that they only had Cain and Abel, when in fact they also had a 3rd son named Seth who was named as an ancestor to Jesus in the New Testament AND there were other people outside of Eden. This is supported by two seperate references in Genesis - after Cain was banished, he'd found a woman with whom to mate, ergo - there were other people. Further, after they left Eden, Genesis describes Adam and Eve as having many sons and daughters. Lastly, Genesis 6:1-4 describes how in the earliest days, the earth was populated by the Sons of God mating with the Daughters of Man.

It is not so hard to poke holes in scripture, but you look less foolish if you take the time to actually read it before you only succeed at dissembling it to people equally ill informed.
