Maybe because there's nothing to sympathize for-most people would want to lose weight and be thin....or they see gaining weight as easier than losing weight. But I myself am underweight and I don't gain weight easily even when I try. Overweight people also probably face more negative stigma than underweight people.

Modern culture, our society now, has created a negative image for overweight people. The ideal body type is skinny. But ironically in my experience, even the really skinny people get picked on more than the bigger ones and it seems that people pick on skinny people right in front of the skinny person. With overweight people, the making fun of happens behind their backs.

I can understand both sides. Severely obese people earn my sympathy, but then I'm like, "well, how did they let themselves get this way?", and then my sympathy kind of fades away. I hate hearing lame excuses, like
"I'm big boned"--that's bullsh*t!
I say, "It's because your calorie intake way exceeds your activity level."

If there's medical reasoning, like diabetes or a thyroid disorder, then I can understand.
But someone can be underweight for the same reasons. But if they're a size 6 and bitching about eating a slice of pizza, then that's not right either.

Because almost everyone has gotten to the overweight mark and understand how easy it is to get out of shape. But using being underweight is done intentionally because your trying too hard.

I don't know. I guess it seems easier to put on weight than to take it off. Also there are more over weight people than under weight. I think that when people see people who are under weight, they are slightly disgusted, and a bit jelous, because to be super thin is what society holds as the ideal.

I do not sympathize for people who are over weight. It is their choice. They might have the genes and gain weight faster than someone else, but they choose what to eat. They can work out.

hi Taylor to answer your question. its Hollywood, its the media, the cameras. they all say its not good to be obese and then they say to the skinny ones oh! you look perfect for the part. not realizing that they too have a eating disorder. they eat so much until they get tired of eating and then they stick their finger down there throat and make themselves throw up. go figure??? obesity and anorexia is the same to me. they're both bad for your health.

What world do you live in. I have never seen anybody be sympathetic to overweight people. In fact it's the other way around. They are called names, made fun of, and all sorts of foul crap.
