If you are talking about long bed trucks with extended cabs, the dually is more stable. The extra width of the dual rear wheels helps to prevent the truck from tipping over. When trucks get very long, they are proportionally narrow, making them somewhat unstable.
The NHTSA had a report out a few years ago about 15 passenger vans being at higher risk of tipping over than shorter versions because their track was too narrow. They recommended that all extended length vans be equipped with dual rear wheels.
Also, from my Home Care experience (I'm a Respiratory Therapist), the oxygen vans are very heavy. They were fitted with after market auxiliary springs to deal with the amount of weight the vehicle was subject to. A 1000 liter liquid oxygen cylinder was in the back of their E-350s and the drivers I talked to said that they wear tires out frequently (about 15,000 miles). By having more tires to support the weight, you extend your tire life when under heavy load.

its both on those, and you also get a lot better payload with those,a1 ton has the ability to handle more than its share of weight,a 3/4 ton will haul up to that much, but it doesn't have the springs needed for heavy hauling,it has the power ,it just wont support the load.good luck, hope this helps

There are also one ton single wheel axles too---just remember that you really can't 4x4 in a dually in rocky terrain--the rocks wedge up between the two tires and blow the out.
