ok, i placed an application at the work place in the 1st week of july. its now the 3 1/2 week of july and they haven't contacted me yet, they say they have to do a background check but how long does that take? i called today and they said they only call you if they want to interview you
wat does that mean?!!!!!

It means they don't want to interview you, they may have already filled the job. If they wanted you they would have offered by now. If you haven't had an interview yet they won't do the background check yet. Unless it is government work then it could take months. Look at other jobs.

I would never let someone do a background check on me until after they had offered the position. I guess they can legally if you consented to it, but it doesn't make sense to run a background check on every applicant unless you applying for a position with law enforcement or something. I would try to talk to the decision maker and ask them what the status is.

Means you should have been putting in lots of applications around town and not putting all your eggs in one basket .
Looks like that one is probably not going to happen .

Means they are not interested in you yet. They may have more candidates than you that applied and they have better work record or experience.
