well the first thing you got to relize is that most people CANT get huge bulging muscles even if they work out alot. Most peoples bodies arent capable of getting as big as the professional bodybuilders so once you start to to lift weights later dont hold back because you are worried about that. Second I started lifting when I was 14, its not the fact that its unhealthy to lift before 16 but its unhealthly to start lifting before you hit puberty. You got to let your body develope more before starting. Keep eating a healthy diet, keep the fat intake low and protein high. If you havent already start running to keep burning fat. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml Heres a good site I used when I started running if you havent already. For the most part your really going to have to wait to get past a certain point because at that point you'll need to use weights to get any stronger. This site is one I use for reference it's got ALOT of exercises that dont involve weights and works alot of muscles on the body. Its got pictures and descriptions of all of them. There's more to working out your body than JUST push-ups and pull-ups these exercises will work your body better read them all and pick some for the different parts of the body. http://www.combatfitness.co.uk/ Once you click the link click on exercises on the left. Start slow and dont overwork yourself figure out how many times you can do each one to exhaustion and from there decide how many you can handle in each set do 3-5 for each exercise. Rest for about a minute in between and dont do too many reps in each exercise, you should be able to finish all the sets. Start low and work up thats how I did it.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with using weights no matter what age you're at. The theory about weightlifing causing a stunt in growth is an urban legend and is false. Secondly, there are plenty of exercises you can do without lifting weights. Doing push ups will greatly enhance your arms and chest muscles. Doing sit ups or cruches will develop your stomach muscles. Running and using the Nordic Trac will develop your leg muscles. Certain yoga and aerobics exercises can be significantly strenuous which will not only increase your muscle mass, but also improve your conditioning. So there are plenty of non-weight activities you could engage in to increase your muscles.

Muscles get stronger when they "need" to get stronger. And, they "need" to get stronger when they start doing heavier exercise. Is weight lifting automatically bad for someone under 16? No. But focus on higher reps (like 15 reps) rather than 6 or 8. Swimming would be great, running is good....but weights would let you focus on particular areas. If you are really serious, ask a trainer about the best way to increase strength...talk to a decent doctor (not a lazy one who does no reading), and get into weights. It is something you can do your whole life, and you'll end up loving it if you do it right.

My son is <16 and he lifts weights...You need to make sure that you are eating not only the right foods but the right amount of foods...We bought him a weight bench and weights so that he would be able to workout whenever he and his friends please...He also takes weight lifting in school for his physical eduction course and he plays football so all that helps...My son was very skinny but now is pretty muscular and he has abs to die for, lol! You can do it! Try talking to your parents and express to them your desire to gain more muscle and ask for their help...

Good luck with gaining muscle!

one way that is weldom heard of or mentioned is beta blockers like nadalol and angina medicine that causes intense cramps with stopped abruptly thus tearing all the muscles except the smooth muscles which acts very similiarly to the tearing caused by lifting weights but you need a Dr.s prescription for heart medicine like this. and will have to tolerate some painful cramping in muscles you never knew you had.

Wrestling, Gymnastics, and Bodyweight Exercises like handstand push ups against a wall, chinups, one legged squats, one arm push ups, will build a strong base, but you won't really see a change in you muscularity until you're able to start lifting.

I don't know the appropriate way to say this, but if you are sexually mature, go ahead and go for the iron.

Why not try sports....go to the gym and throw a basketball at the goal twenty times..work up to a hundred...do push ups....do yard work....move those arms and they will develope healthy muscle...if it comes from natural movements like sports or yard work,,,it will be better for you anyway. Jump rope is also good for arm work outs..and leg work outs..you don't want to end up with nice arms and skinny leg calves...

Of course.....push ups, dips (if you know they are) pull-ups and chin ups. Using your own body weight is actually a really effective muscle workout. And don't expect to start seeing rippling biceps after just two weeks....be patient it takes time. You'll start seeing minor changes in a short period of time....but the larger results just take time.
