Professional head shots should be done in black and white.

Black and white is still the preferred format for head shots although now some people are expanding the head shot into a three-quarter body shot. Be careful how innovative you try to get with a picture (color, turning it on its side, props, etc.) you do not want to distract from the main idea -- you at the center.

I'd say black and white--seems more professional, and less cluttered than color photos.

It depends on what is currently used where you are pursuing your acting career.
