Nothing.

The former INS, now Homeland Security, claims jurisdiction over illegal immigrants.

Local police would be outside their authority to arrest them.

Illegal immigration causes many problems that's for sure. That is an indisputable fact. Given your estimate of 20 million illegals let's proceed from there. Let's say even 1/3 of them are holding jobs. That's almost 7 million people in the workforce. Contributing to the tax base etc. That would leave 7 million job vacancies. Would our nation be able to handle that many leaving the workforce? Probably not. Would Americans step into these jobs for the pay offered? Probably not. Companies bottom line is profit. Would they raise wages to get Americans to work these jobs? Probably not. More companies would begin to outsource. Thus leaving many Americans out of jobs that now hold jobs. Our entire country would collapse and the Great Depression would look like a cakewalk. As I've said illegal immigration is wrong and needs to stop. But we also need to be realistic on deporting as you say 20 million people. Believe me...It's not going to happen for various reasons. So we must move forward and think of realistic ways to deal with the situation at hand and also insure the illegal situation is stemmed in the future. Better border security and visa systems need to be taken care of first and foremost so the situation doesn't progressively get worse. Once the flow is stopped we can then work on what to do with those already here.

You can call the police. What they will do depends on the individual police department. Police in communities that are having more than the usual amount of trouble from illegals will do what they can to get them rounded up or at least leave town.

This subject is one of the big political battles going on right now. Activists supporting the Amnesty bills & the ACLU are suing cities around the country claiming that only USCIS Law Enforcement (Border Patrol for the most part) has jurisdiction over illegals who are otherwise obeying the law.

If you believe that your local & state police should be able to detain illegal aliens until USCIS is able to take custody, then contact your Congress Critters and tell them you want your police to have this power.

If you believe that town, County & State Law should be able to penalize US citizens, Residents & businesses for knowingly assisting Illegal Aliens, then contact your Congress Critters and tell them you want this.

If you become aware of businesses employing Illegal Aliens you can contact USCIS. If they do nothing, then again contact your Congress Critters and ask why USCIS chooses not to enforce the laws that only they are currently allowed to enforce.

And of course if you have an opinion opposite to anything said here and want your Congress Critters to act on your beliefs then contact them & let them know what you think

If you call the police it is likely you will get into trouble for calling them for a non emergency, so call the non emergency number and ask them what their policy is, but keep in mind if you call and it turns up that the people you called on are legally here then you will go to jail for committing the felony of filing a false report. Be sure who you are reporting is illegal because if they aren't not only will you be charged with a crime, but then you also subjected yourself to a lawsuit from that immigrant for civil rights violations, discrimination, harrassment, and slander.

I don't think the police can do anything. But you should call the immigration and let them know that there are illegals standing on the corner begging for work. Iam sure they are illegal, and they all need to go home. We need to take our country back, before its to late. You can't go anywhere anymore with out seeing them every where, and iam getting really sick of it. I don't have any respect for that race at all. And that is the only race that i don't have respect for.

They wouldn't do anything unless they were a traffic hazard, harassing people, littering, or causing a public disturbance. The police readily admit that this is a Federal problem and so they have no jurisdiction. At least that is the way it is Las Vegas.

Hell, they won't even come over if your property is stolen. Will respond to extreme situations, whatever that means to them.

I worked security at a high end gated community and they came out for just about anything. Go figure.

I called the police once on them. A bunch of them were outside Home Depot. When I left the store, they were making filthy gestures and calling out to me. One followed me halfway to my car till he saw that I took my phone out. The police came, but only did a drive through the parking lot. I will never go back to that store again. I'll go to my local hardware store where I feel safe.

They wouldn't do anything. If you called USICE, however, then they may run a background check and see if they have committed any crimes that subject them to deportation. But unless you observe them committing a violent crime, most likely nothing will happen.

I surely hope you never end up in desparation and have to leave your homeland. Also, if you see them, do you ever think that an illegal is also a human being? He or she may have a family to feed. Most people who immigrate to this country don't do so because they want to, most do it out of necessity.

See the human side of things, IF you can.

Police will do nothing to illegal aliens. Is this sad or what?

You can try citizen arrest.
