The poor thing is probably injured. She may have gotten caght in the fanbelt of a car.If she's friendly, and you can get her to a vet, that would be very compassionate. It shouldn't hurt you to touch it,and it could just be mats, but if the skin is torn, flies will get to it,and they will lay eggs, which turn into maggots, and the end result is not pretty,as you can imagine.Poor kitty,I hope you can help her.

Hi there. This is likely clumps of hair that have developed over the years. A cat needs to be petted and sometimes brushed and evidently no one takes care of this cat. Does it belong to someone?

If it does not, it would be very humane to trap it in a Hav-A-Heart trap and take it to a vet who has a groomer on staff. The animal would likely be sedated and it's hair cut and an exam done. There could be maggots lurking beneath all the clumps of hair. If it is also skin, the animal can hardly be healthy.

Thank YOU for caring for this animal. We often look the other way when we see an animal in trouble. This cat is at LEAST very uncomfortable and perhaps worse.

Thanks again -

Sounds like the cat has matted fur. Does anyone own the cat? If not call the SPCA they can get the cat and get it the medical treatment and grooming it needs. Also if no one owns the cat someone It will need to be taken somewhere anyway because noone will ever pay for medical treatments for it. If someone owns and cares for this cat they need to take it to get groomed. If this cat is not getting the help it needs it is being neglected. If it has owners and they are letting this happen it is animal cruelty. mattes can be very painful and the longer they build up the harder it is to take care of the problem. I beg you to get this cat the treatment it needs.

It should be tangles hair hanging off the cat. If you cat touch her you can take the cat to the vet because they have special trimmers to shave the cat with out hurting the cat. If you were thinking of doing it you have to be very careful not to get too close to the skin when you cut them out.If you cut them out and get the skin they well bleed a lot , real messy. I would take the cat top the vet.....Best of luck

The best idea would be to take it to a local animal shelter or a vet for an expert opinion. Does the cat have an owner, or is she just a prowler? Just find a box or something to carry her in, and bring her to the shelter or vet, and they will advise you what to do.

It could be "Feline acquired symmetrical alopecia." There is no treatment really. If that isnt it, it could be mange. I advise if you pet the cat, wash any part of you that has come in contact with the cat
