HI! Hope I can help you.
Golden's being a large breed dog can develop Hip problems. That's why you should look for a very good breeder who health tests their Golden's for this.
Also they can have elbow problems, heart problems and eye problems. Like I said above a good breeder will screen for these genetic problems. Look for a breeder who does all the health testing for these problems and then get a pup from them. It may cost you a bit more but it will save you much heart ache and vet bills in the future.
Good luck with your search! Golden's are a very awesome breed of dog!

They can get any disease that dogs can get.Contagious ones, that are preventable by vaccinating, are distemper, parvovirus and leptospirosis. Also, hepatitis, coronavirus, kennel cough, rabies, and a few others.Congenital,or inherited disease include hip displaysia, heart and eye problems, bone cancer, skin problems, ear infections, entropion ( the eyelid turns inward instead of outward, causing corneal ulcers,if surgery isn't performed) and many others. You need to investigate the breeder. The puppy should have been checked by a vet,had at least one set of shots and several wormings, and the pups should be clean, with nicely rounded, but not bloated ,bellies. The ears and eyes should be clean and free of discharge. The parents should be of good weight, friendly, and OFA and CERF certified, and have no heart defects, and the breeder should be happy to let you talk to his/her vet,and to other people who have purchased puppies from them. Then, you need to do some reading,to learn all you can about the breed.Go out and buy the essential supplies ( crate, collar, leash, bowls, toys, food, etc,),and arrange a vet check within the first 48 hours after bringing the pup home,to assure that it is healthy. Then, you'll be ready for a wonderful 14 or so years of companionship and unconditional love.

I've owned several goldens and though they are prone to certain diseases, they are no more prone to disease than any other breed. Hypothyroidism, hip dsyplasia and some types of cancer are three possibilities, but many breeds are susceptible to these diseases. Do some research on the breed, buy from a reputable breeder that breeds from animals that have had hips, eyes, elbows and hearts screened and have bred to avoid lines that had problems with cancer and you will increase your odds of getting healthy dog.

Look up info on the breed. Different pure breeds are susceptible to different diseases. But just do your part and make sure you get whatever dog you get to the vet on a regular basis.
This way you can avoid several sicknesses by immunizations and spay/neuter.

Hip dysplasia, allergies, ear infections, hot spots. And since they like to put everything in their mouths, they are prone to bowel obstructions, getting poisoned/sick from eating things they shouldn't, getting protozoal infections. Those are the big ones I have seen.
