Chemo therapy is a combination of drugs that are given to kill cancer cells. There are many, many different kinds of Chemo. I would suggest that you talk with your Mom about your fears and that both of you talk with her doctor. It would be a good idea to write down all of your questions and take the list with you. Good luck to you both.

Honey, you are a little scared right now I can hear it. I'm a 15 year Breast Cancer Survivor, I've been through chemotherapy a number of times, lost and grown back my hair three times, lost weight, gained weight, you name it, and some of us survive some don't. All chemo drugs are different, they work on different cancers, they are poisons put in the body in the hopes that they will slow down or kill the cancer and not the person. All of them have different side effects, some people get really sick, throw up, others sail through their time with chemo. There are some really good drugs now to deal with nausea, so it's not as scary as it used to be in that department. One of the big things is how tired it can make you, your mom will need all the support she can get in that area, she will need lots of rest and sleep, don't let her get guilty about doing it... Go to the website below, it's great, it can answer all your questions, or better yet call 18889393333 if you are in Canada, they do have all the answers and you get a live person to talk to.

Chemo is a drug treatment to kill cancer cells.

It can totally destroy the cancer, reduse it in size or simply stop it from growing, depending on the case.

It can be tablets for some people but most often it is given as a drip into a vein.

It can be uncomfortable when the drip is entering the vein.

People don't die from Chemo, although sometimes the side effects make you wish it did!

It can cause tiredness, nausea, hairloss, etc.

Your mom is lucky to have a caring daughter to support her through this - I don't know how I would have coped without my daughter who was only 15 at the time!
