like jon said, just mess around with a car mechanically. take things apart, put things on. and on and on. dont ask how to do somthing, do it yourself, see the results. the only real way to learn is trial and error, not by someone telling you.

What kind?? Old or new??---you can go to a bookstore and look in automotive books--basically old are for the experts to work on--and the new ones are all computer controlled--not for the geeks in the computer room at work--I mean the whole thing is technology from approved schools. But basically you put fuel in the tank--it is pumped to the engine--the engine coordinates the fuel and air for combustion inside--the valves open and close--that lets the exhausted spent fuel out the pipe to the muffler--nice and quietly--that's it. The battery starts the car--the running car recharges the battery in about 20 minutes--then the alternator supplies the power--the battery only stores the power to turn the starter...that's it. Oil keeps the car motor running without friction--otherwise it heats up and metal swells--NO MORE MOVEMENT. The antifreeze is in the radiator--the hoses allow it to flow thru the motor to absorb heat--and then back to the radiartor for the cooling process. The thermostat maintains a recommended temperature--180 to 210--on most cars. The air conditioning is air compressed and the moisture removed--then passed over cooling stuff and blown into the car. Are you getting all this.????Tires allow contact with the road--the whole car actually sits on only a few square inches of rubber. So good tires are a must. the water needs to get out from under the tire-to prevent loss of contact with the road--hence the tread pattern. Crap tires will skid--end of car. Springs and shocks absorb the forces of lean and swaying--designed to control the car--any extra weight or shift in the angle of the cars profile?? Loss of proper control. Bad shocks ???-- loss of control on violent manuvers or bad bumps. Radio?? Put on FM--move the selector to find music--then adjust the volume--EASY !!!

Sign up with the local high school or Junior College for a low cost course in Auto Mechanics. There are also specialty schools that teach professional (career) auto mechanics, but the cost of these may be 5 times as much as a Junior College. Girls and almost anybody with a genuine interest in learning can attend. These schools always have libraries with lots of supplemental information for the interested student.

you can take a course on them in school or a vocational school,or take an on line course,or read a lot of books, the best way is to get a job as a mechanics helper at a garage, or you can come to my shop and i,ll teach you for free and learn it hands on,that's the best way,it will stay with you longer that way, cars change every day,so you have to stay up to date with them as they change, good luck with, hope this helps, but the first thing that every expert has to learn is how to change air and fuel filters and reading codes, since this is the process that fix almost all the problems with todays vehicles

Buy a shop manual for your car. Buy an old high-school auto-shop text book. Read them and do stuff. Get dirty and bleed on your car... your blood will nourish it.

You can also learn a lot by watching other people work on cars and acting as a helper or gofer.

the worst thing you can do is start taking your car apart and putting things back together because if u screw something up , and dont know what it is ur freinds or mechanic is gunna have a hell of time figuring it out and then your gunna look like an idiot in the end , the best thing to do is hangout with your freinds when they fix their cars and watch and ask questions !!

best way? buy a beater for like $200, buy some tools, rip it apart, put it back together. See how things work. If you ruin it, so what? It was a beater anyway.
