Hi there. The ultimate system will cost you in excess of $100,000 .00.Are you on good terms with your Bank Manager? Seriously though ,Speakers are a personal choice
and are one of the hardest items to buy. There are so many different design principles, shapes, sizes and sound dispersion patterns it becomes very daunting. All speakers add their own "coloration" to the sound they are reproducing .The better ones don't add as much of their own"sound' as the lesser ones. These are known as "neutral sounding" speakers. However we can narrow the choices down after you give me a bit more information.
(1) What is your budget for the speakers ?
(2) Are you going to use 7 speakers plus a Subwoofer ?
(3) What size is your room (small, medium, large) ?
(4) Do you want large floor standing speakers for the front,or would smaller bookshelf type speakers be best ? (this has nothing to do with sound quality only cabinet size)
(5) when we know what speakers you get then we will discuss speaker cable, ok ?
If you can supply that information it will be easier to recommend some very good speakers,Thanks.

Hey There,
I used to work for Denon Australia, I suggest doing what the other people have suggested - that is - take a hand full of CDs you know very very well, and go listen to a bunch of speakers.
If its possible, try and listen to different sets in the same store, so you dont forget their sound when/if driving between places. A good store will have a dedicated listening room where it wont take long to swap them over.
I do suggest however, that you have a listen to Mirage Omnisat speakers. They sound great with Denon, especially the relatively new 2807. They have a decent range of prices and look pretty snazy too (and are Canadian).
Cheers

Nothing is more personal than speakers, what may sound good to some, will be like nails on a chalkboard to others.
Take 3-4 CD's that you know very well, and take a Sat.morning and go to3-4 audio stores near you and audition.
You will certainly find ones that you prefer over the others.
Dont buy based on Ad's (bose) or price, you will be listening to them for a long time.
I have a Denon 3803, very nice, warm, love it, PSB Stratus Mini monitors ACI Titan II sub.
PSB makes nice speakers (Canadian) ACI Are excellent, a bit pricey, but sensational for the money, availible online only.

The ultimate speaker system?? There are so many variables to that questions.
The ultimate system for your home depends on the size of the room you want the system in and what you want the system to be used for and or acomplish. (Tuning a room)
Put you denon's eq flat and go from there. There are so many good speakers to choose from just remember speakers are only as good as the signal you send to them.

Depends on the budget.
At about $800, this is *probably* one of your best bets:

At $1,300:

with this subwoofer:

If your budget is higher than $1,300, I would look into getting five Paradigm Reference Studio 20 bookshelfs with the aformentioned SVS PB10 subwoofer.

12ga copper speaker wire:

MonsterCable and other "high-end" cables are all HYPE. You'd need a $50,000+ system to *possibly* hear a difference.
