I have always avoided desserts that require "cream of tartar" because I have no clue what it is and where to find it at the grocery store...

It is in the baking and spice isle; Cream of tartar is used to stabilize beaten egg whites and to make baking powder. As far as I know there is no substitute but you can make a good baking powder substitute with it (1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar = 1 teaspoon baking powder) so it is handy to have. Cream of tartar is commonly used in "Snickerdoodles" and I dont have a clue what it is. I know you can find it in the spice isle at your local grocer.

It is a thickening agent and is found in the condiment section of the grocery store along w/ the spices.

you will find it where the spices are and if not in the cake isle where the frostings are...it usually is in a small container by mccormick above the regular spices...hope it helps

Its a spice usually used for pies.Its found with all the spices in that section.....George
