Apparently, there is a story about how we all came from one place in the beginning of time, and God seperated us into different religions/languages so that we couldn't go back.
a) do I have it right
b) if so, then are we supposed to learn this one lesson in life: merge, learn from eachother, with open arms and and open hearts or we can't go back?

a) Yes, we all descended from Adam and Eve and are all brothers and sisters in that respect. After the great flood, the Lord commanded Noah and his family to go forth and fill the earth. Instead, the generations ended up building an enormous shrine, known as the Tower of Babel. They were there to gain glory for themselves & were disobeying the direct order to go forth and multiply. Thus, the Lord gave the different groups different languages so as to make them more willing to move apart and follow His command.

b) The lesson is that God will have his commands followed, even if we are not willing at first to obey Him. Remember, this isn't about free-will. We still have free-will. But the Lord will take measures to encourage us when we disobey a direct command from Him.

The story of the Tower of Babel is not exactly miraculous. Unfortunately, modern historical study didn't catch up to the Biblical account until the 1950's. The Tower of Babel is nothing more than an account of how the Babylonians overran what was left of Sumerian civilization in central Mesopotamia around 2300 BC.

God who is peace loving and wants us to love him and loves us eternally knocked over a big tower that was being built by people who loved him so much that they wanted to be near to him. As punishment for loving him so much, this loving god cast us into separate tribes so we could spend thousands of years killing each other in his name.
