My dog has been itching like crazy lately and it's keeping me up all night. I have tried Frontline, Biospot and K9 Advantix and not one of them has worked. They cut down on the itching a little bit, but he is darting around like fleas are biting his butt and he keeps biting at his legs. He had a flea bath each time before I applied the topical treatments. Whats gives? I can't stand seeing him be so uncomfortable but I can't think of what else to do. My 2 indoor cats use Frontline and they never scratch.

It might be the sacs in the rectum area are full and need to be purged out. When they are full they itch like crazy. Get a kleenex and squeeze around the rectum area and drain these sacs. That might help. They also make a special shampoo expecially for itching problems.

When my cat had this problem, I finally found out that it was a severe allergy to the corn in her food. You might want to try switching him to a no corn, no wheat food, & see if that helps. I would like to say that some that seem to be the best ones that I've found, so far, are, one called Canidae, & one called Wellness. And, a good friend of mine, at the pet store, where I buy my pet supplies, told me that when you do switch your pet to a better quality food, it can take 2 or 3 months, to acctually see the difference, & in the meen time, sometimes, the symptoms may appear to get worse, because your pet's body is throwing off all the toxins that accumulated, while he was eating the not-so-good food.
One more thing, when my cat was itching, the only thing that the vet would do, beyond flea treatments, were cortizone shots, but he told me that in the long-term this could damage her liver, so watch out for those.

With frontline, make sure you give the dog at least 2 days after the bath before you put it on him, or he won't have enough skin oil to make it work.

Are you sure it's fleas? He might have an allergy to the shampoo, or his food, or something in the environment. Take him to the vet to get help if you don't see any fleas on him. He could also have hot spots or lots of other problems. The vet is the best idea if you don't see any fleas on him.

Our former dog did that. It turned out she was allergic to the flea bites themselves. We had to take her in for her "flea shot" about once a month.

Our current chihuahua has not had one flea in 11 years.

You need to take the dog to the vet. He may very well have allergies & the vet can give him a shot. Poor dog. I can imagine how he & you must feel. The shot is very inexpensive!
