To prove "sola scriptura"?

2 Timothy 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works

Verse 16 says "scripture". Scripture is the Old Testament only. There was no New Testament then. There was the Old Testament that Jesus taught and preached to the Apostles orally, just as the Apostles taught and preached to the Jewish and the Gentiles orally. Not everything Jesus preached to the Apostles was written down as shown in John 20:30

30And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

And in John 21:25

25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Sacred tradition are the things that Jesus taught that is not written down, that He passed on to the Apostles which they passed down in Apostolic succession.

Exactly.

Sola scriptura is the Reformation version of the emperor's new clothes. In their attempt to evade the biblical and historical evidence of the Church's magisterial authority the Reformers insisted on seeing in the Bible a doctrine which simply isn't there.

Second Epistle Of Saint Paul To Timothy
Chapter 3

16 All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice, 17 That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.

"All scripture,"... Every part of divine scripture is certainly profitable for all these ends. But, if we would have the whole rule of Christian faith and practice, we must not be content with those Scriptures, which Timothy knew from his infancy, that is, with the Old Testament alone: nor yet with the New Testament, without taking along with it the traditions of the apostles, and the interpretation of the church, to which the apostles delivered both the book, and the true meaning of it.

Traditions are only valid if they are built on the firm foundation of Scripture, and in full agreement with the entirety of Scripture.
The issue concerning any church and its practices should be “Is this Biblical?” If a teaching is Biblical (taken in context), it should be embraced. If it is not, it should be rejected. God is more interested in whether a church is doing His will and obeying His Word than whether it can trace a line of succession back to Jesus’ apostles. Jesus was very concerned about abandoning the Word of God to follow the traditions of men (Mark 7:7). Traditions are not inherently invalid…there are some good and valuable traditions. Again, the issue must be whether a doctrine, practice, or tradition is Biblical.

True enlightenment occurs only after the cup of bitterness has been drunk to the dregs. One might ask: "What is the Word"? I cannot answer this without prayer and Deep Thought. (every time I say that now, I think of that story by Douglas Adams, argh!!!) Anyway, such things are retreats made from . It is beauty, and it is the hub of the merry-go-round. But I like the way you explained "Scripture" in this context. It made me smile. God hides things you know. Sometimes little ones are not allowed to find them until they have earned such trust. (IMO) ~peace, from the flat forehead of many brick walls

btw, I was thinking of that passage from John today. It's been on my mind lately. I LOVE that passage. It is like a key to "life beyond the bible" There is a secret garden within. Pray hard so that you might earn the trust of God. (It is not God who has to earn our trust)

Timothy was written after Jesus came. And scripture includes the entire Bible now. Many old testament prophesies came true in the new testament. My Bible lists all of them. There were prophesies about Jesus, and even about the end times found in the old testament. Write me if you want to know more.

God Bless!

As for correction, that doesnt mean change the scriptures. It means to use it to show what sin is. Different type of correction.

I'll tell you

Jesus was a Jew and the New Testament largely is Christian, save some 2 gospels of which are more Gnostic than Jewish

the "many other things" is something you and I can do, just follow Nike slogan

Just Do It, be the miracle, seize the day

Hi new Friend and all,

If you look at the original Greek in II Timothy 3:16 you will see a translation which indicates that "All scripture THAT is inspired by God is profitable ...."

That is how I believe is the original writing. My standard of Truth is He the Spirit of Truth as Revealed by Jesus and IS Jesus here in Spirit with us ! He, and only He, leads us into the All Truth of God. All other Bible authors were just partly inspired, nowhere near the Infinite Wisdom of Jesus our True Father-Son-Spirit GOD.

Thus I am an eclectic exegete a (very picky and very choosy) Spirit-led Christian Bible scholar. I choose to believe and share only about the best 1% or less of the Old Testament and about the best 15% of the New Testament. There is also the not Reveled "Scripture of Truth" mentioned once in Daniel and which refers to Michael our Prince of Peace and more.

Trying to interpret the complex Bible has lead Christians today into 34,000 or more different denominations and sects ! And each member of one particular sect believes differently than all the other members of that same sect ! Thus, the intellectual study of the Bible (or any religious book) divides; and the Living Jesus fully here with us in Spirit is urging us to unite and unify more to better win this whole world to the will of God to seek and to follow our Sovereign Savior-- Master Creator Son -- Jesus Christ !

He still says to "Love your enemies" -- yet I see many Christians of different intellectual beliefs fight furiously for their beliefs of what a Bible verse means -- Has the "Word of God" being the Bible replaced the Living Eternal Word of God JESUS here ? I hope and pray not ! Shame on all sub-spiritual, intellectual Christians ! Read again John ch 1
The Living Word Who IS GOD is not the little Bible ! HE IS JESUS HERE ! GOD says still to Follow Him !

Yes, today there are many more spiritual book about how Jesus in Spirit has come into a seeking Human's soul and elevated and transformed him or her ! Those Gifted persons KNOW GOD personally; they are not just taking a denominational, dry Theological course to get Human status ! (That's fine too, as long as your mind is under your soul who can see(perceive in Spirit) God and Jesus here as One in Spirit and we in Him ! Priorities !)

We are all called into living spiritual Unity in Jesus and not into mere crystallized, dry intellectual uniformity.

Living Truth of God in Jesus is ever unfolding in ever larger units as all of Mankind here continues to progress into our destiny of eventual Light and Life in Jesus.

Peace and progress,
Brother Dave, a Jesusonian

"sola scriptura" was a term the Reformers used . . . they were speaking of the problem that arose in the "Church" between Tradition and Scripture . . . and which one "we" should follow . . . and they thought "scripture alone" was the best way to go . . .

is is not about 2 Tim : bla bla . . .
