energy can be released from something such as wood,coal,gas ect. generated in many ways or can be seen or felt in forces of nature. the question is could you have energy as a separate entity that could be held or observed

i would like to thank each of you for your serious and thoughtful answers. the idea of trapping a atom seems plausable. and it could be measured as a physical form but is a atom pure energy or a conveyance for energy if it is would that be the mass created at extreme temperature. anyway the temp extreme and what might be possible was beyond my knowledge and i liked that. since there were 9 more responses than i expected im putting the best answer to a vote. thank you again for the effort you put in on this question

light is physical, it's electrons!

If you can contain and control electrons separately (let's say with a magnetic container), then yes, in theory, you would be able to observe. However, the light would appear to be invisible, or black. Why? because the physical particles of the light would not actually be traveling towards you, since it is suspended in the container. Weird, eh?

The only energy you could really observe is kinetic energy, but that's not physical energy, that is a physical something being moved by energy.

No. Contrary to common misconception, energy is not a substance that things can be "made of", but a property of matter like momentum, charge, or mass. Matter is a substance that things are made of. This misconception comes from the equivalence E=mc^2. People assume this to mean that matter is a form of energy, when in fact it means that mass is a form of energy. The confusion may stem from the colloquialism of sometimes referring to an object with mass as *a* mass, like, "you have a cancerous mass in your brain".

Yes it is theoretically possible at high temperature.

Just like 0K or -273C is the lowest minimum temp. in the universe, the max temp possible is 10^14K, i.e. 100 trillion degrees. It has been calculated that if you pump heat energy above that temp., it will be converted into mass. That is how stars are constantly formed.

I am not a physicist, but it seems to me that the wind is a sort of energy in a physical form. Also gravity?

E=MC2
Yes, the clue is in the equals sign.
Oh, and light is not electrons, it is thought to be photons but is still really at the theory stage.
