You sound confused, really confused but you not the first and definitely wont be the last.
There are many so called Holy Books, and whether you agree with this or Not, men were used In so fashion with all when it came to writing them. The Difference between the Bible and these Other Books is that the Bible is the ONLY book that tells us about the Origin of The Universe, the ONLY book that speaks about Salvation for Mankind, the Only Book that tells us why we are here, How sin entered into the World, Why it was necessary for Christ to Die for us, the Only Book that has archaeology proof of the Names & Places of old, cities long buried etc etc.
It tells us why we grow old and Die, how we can come into a Better Relationship with God. None of the other Books speak of the need for Repentance, nor let us know that we are sinners certainly not the Quran, Buddhist book or the Hindu book. In essence, the Bible is UNIQUE.

We read all kinds of books - and then decide what we will take from them. The same is true of the Bible - what can it hurt to read it? If you have questions - ask them. We were created by God and along with that comes the desire to know him. The Bible contains 100's of stories about other people just like you and what they experienced because they chose to know God - or reject him. It is called the Living Word - which means the words are as real today as when they were written and God will illuminate for you whatever you need.

Faith in God is taking God at His Word and believing Him. The Bible has very few questionable verses and these have nothing to do with the overall picture which God frames. From Genesis to Revelation it is all about Jesus Christ.
Get you a Nelson - King James Study Bible - start reading in the New Testament Book of John, then read the Old Testament Book of Daniel and then read the Book of Revelation which is the last book of the New Testament. These will get you interested enough to want to finish it.

If you believe that God created us *all*, then you should read all books which claim to be written by those with divine inspiration (ie, where God told them what to write).
If you are happy to do that (which basically covers most religious texts period), then read the bible and all the others, and you might find understanding (but most likely wholesale amounts of ambiguity).
The way that I look at it however is that God made us in his image, therefore, we have the power to be just as influential as God is, and have the same powers - it is a pity that we don't know how to use them, and seem to be genuinely incapable of believing we even have them.
If God made us all in his image, either, a) there are a *lot* of Gods walking around aimlessly, b) The bible lied to us, there is only one God, and we aren't made exactly in his image, c) we are all part of the one god, which is exactly as described in the bible by good being omnipresent - ie, I contain God within me.
So conclusively, you are part of God as such, and then, if you want the answers to questions, you have only yourself to look at, and if you want power, you have only yourself limiting it.
As a kid I always wondered why I could always make myself sick on sportsdays, but not well when I was actually sick, the answer is that I can do both, but don't believe that I can make myself well, and therefore can't. Your brain is the only limiting factor you have got.
My suggestion, read something that doesn't claim to be divinely inspired, fiction - but which will inspire you to find it. I would suggest Richard Bach's Illusions as a good start.

correction: man did not write the bible, God did. They were inspired through the Holy Spirit.
O.k, here is my answer:
You should read the bible because in it you will find the wisdom that you need. The more you read it the more your heart will be restored and you will be at peace. But first, you have to ask God for guidance and understanding. God is good and he loves you.
I hope this helps and you can try reading the book of Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. You will find words of wisdom and consolation.
May God Bless you
Remember God Loves You

okay
well i'm sure you know this: respect and want isn't going to get you into Heaven, so make sure you've actually accepted the Lord.
God wrote the bible through 40 men
i know you didn't want to hear it but its true so...
get a bible that puts Gods words in red if you really want ONLY His words, but personally, your missing out if you don't read it all.
we don't believe IN the Bible
we believe that the Bible is Gods words
you should try talking to a pastor to get it straight
he may be a better source : )

The first attached link is to an e-book; " In Defense of...the Bible's Inspiration."
The second is an article, "Is the Bible Inspired?"
If we do not have God's will available to us in a way we can understand it, then God is either unwilling or unable to provide it for us. I don't believe God is either unwilling or unable!
Since God knows us better than we even know ourselves, I believe he is able to express His word to us in a way we can understand. Since He loves us, I don't believe he is unwilling to let us know what he wants of us!
I believe the Bible is such a communication from God, and I believe it was preserved for us through the providence of God!

The original translated version would be King James and no new editions either. The regular King James has all the words in while in other versions seems to remove lines or add in new ones that are inaccurate. In the end it's up to you whether or not you desire to read the bible.
