I'm not sure where you are located, but the east coast is good, from Jersey all the way down to Florida. The best catches and biggest crabs I have ever gotten were in South Carolina in August. Lots of fun. If you tell me what state you are talking about going to, I may be able to help you with more specifics.
Good luck, and have FUN!
Okay, here is a link I found, hopefully it helps:

I will keep looking for another couple minutes, then I have to crash - long day tomorrow :-)
Okay, I did a little more searching and "Kemah Boardwalk" came up a few times. Hope this info helps. Good luck down there in Houston.

I'd say the BEST Crabbing on the east coast is Marylands Chesapeake Bay, or further south to Virginia, and even further south to the Carolina coasts. I live in Maryland but have fished these areas and Crabbed them for Blue Crab's my whole life.( And I'm no youngster) Plentiful,Sweet.Spicey with Old Bay Seasoning or O.J. Spice (also made right here in Maryland) Ummmm making me hungry just thinking about it. Crab traps, Trot lines, single lines baited with chicken necks.doesn't matter. I doesn't get any better than this

Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas, Texas, and the Bob Hall Pier on the northern tip of Padre Island. Chicken necks are the best bait, because they are tough and the crab won't get them out of the net very quickly.

Don't know where you're from, but anywhere on the coast is good. Jetties, canals, the surf, wherever. I live in Houston and I like to go down to Surfside.

Go to piers, bulkheads, docks, anywhere there is structure. Also canals are excellent. Best bait is chicken.
