i just wanted to know were you spanked as a child?do you spank your kids what punishment do you use? i know people used to spank over the lap if you dont in what position?

Yes I was, on occasion.
No I don't. I use various different punishments, when needed - whatever fits the situation. But natural consequences seems to fit most of the time. There's always an alternative to spanking.

Yes, I was spanked quite regularly as a child, and I spank my children as well. And yes, the over the lap position is still used, I know because I use it.

i was spanked as a child and yes if it is needed i will do it as well. of course i dont want to do it... i would rather take something away or put them in time out.. but well see when we get there. he's only 1 right now.

i deserved every spanking i got and a few that i didn't. sometimes it was with a belt, sometimes with a hand. I swatted my kids a few times over the years, but only as a last result. i had pretty good luck with trying to deal with them on thier level. a lot of talking and using examples to teach a principle. I can't even remember the last time i had to kick butt.

Yes, I was spanked as a kid and lived to tell about it. My sister has a two year old and I think her method of discipline really works. I've read multiple sources that advise you never to spank with your hand and that there is a difference between "beating" and spanking your child.

They say using your hand is more personal than choosing an object that the child will not relate to you. My sister has a tiny wooden spoon for "spanks". She swats my neice lightly on the thigh and she hardly ever does it. When my niece sees the spoon she straightens right up.

Again, she only spanks once (one swat) and never with her hand.

Anyway, seems to work for her.

No i wasn't. But i do spank Alyssa, she a little girl who im helping to raise with her aunt. Over the knee, it keeps her from running. but this is only a last resort!

i was spanked by my step father, i never knew why and he was always so mean about it, he'd make us pull our pants down then hit our bed REALLY hard with it a few times to get us really scared and then started wailing on us. NO i do not spank, i don't want to do to my daughter what he did to me, i was so scared of him, i thought he hated me. I just never want to do that to her ever, i love her to much.

i was spanked as a child - and more than that to the point of physical abuse

as a result i had to spend much of my early adulthood sorting myself out so that i could become a good parent later on

i am now a parent and when my son was small i did HAVE to resort to spanking when he refused to listen to me when trying to give him instructions to keep him SAFE

but as a result now he is older (nearly 9) i almost never have to spank him as he heeds me well and we have a great relationship now too

the answer to spanking is YES - but sparingly using other methods of discipline first

i have met the products of parents who DON'T believe in spanking and they are spoiled brats expect the world to owe them a living and are disruptive in school as a result
