My wife is Philippino, she is a permanent resident. She just mailed off the Naturalization application. How long is this process and when will she become as US Citizen. We now live in Waldorf, Maryland. We want to move to the Philippines. Can she do some of this in the Philippines?

The processing depends on the verification of the documents that are submitted and may take from 3 to 6 months.

The processing of a naturalization application generall takes around 7 months. In the mean time she will receive a biometric appointment. If any additional information is necessary, she will get requests for that information as well.

Also, she will of course receive an interview where she will complete a test of US History & Government, as well as her english & writing abilities. All of these processes must be conducted while in the US.

Please not that any trip she takes outside the US could be relevant in deciding if her residency has been continuos in the US, as well as an impact on her physical presence requirements. Both are necessary to complete citizenship.

Of course at the end, she'll receive an oath ceremony too, which is the final step. After that, move all ya want!! lol.

Hope I helped. Any questions or concerns? Refer them to USCIS National Customer Service Center. 1800 number is posted at http://www.uscis.gov . They are open 8AM-6PM Nationwide, m-f.
