I get similar back pain every time I play golf. 4 hours of poor golf swings take their toll!

Based on your description, it does sound like a muscle pull, but if the pain becomes a consistent issue, a visit to a professional would be a good idea. The spine is a complex structure of muscles, ligaments, bones and tendons. Aggravating this system is common with extended physical activity and twisting of the spine, as with baseball and golf. Proper stretching and consistent training are the best preventative measures you can take. Once you've pulled a muscle, heat therapy, ibuprofen and the right stretches should help to speed recovery and manage pain.

Here's a good article with information on proper stretching techniques with information and diagrams: http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article864.html

I hope that helps. Get back out there in time for the playoffs.

Muscle relaxant such as robaxin, soma, or flexeril usually works very well with muscle spasm. Try heating pads, stretching, and massage too. Resting and hydration is also very important for healing, especially for muscles. Usually it lasts for about 2 weeks, but it can varies depends on how bad your injury is. Oh, jacuzzi or hot tub are great for this kind of pain too.

A Dr. can prescribe muscle relaxing meds for you. Once your system can get relaxed, the pain will soon go away.
