From my experience white dudes named Colin are not brought up street fighters.

By the way who brought you up a street fighter?

Was you dad Tank Abbot?

Most streetfighters never bother to pick anything up since they usually bring some type of weapon wherever they go, having streetsmarts means thinking ahead and stacking the odds in your favor before getting into a fight, and not just leaving it to luck that you can pick up a 9mm or a knife from the ground in the middle of a fight. If on the offchance that you drop your weapon however and have nothing else to use but what you can pick up from the ground, like a rock for example, then that's the only scenario where your statement applies.

"saved" you have a good point but were you not taught to improvise if need be? In wing chun they do teach you that you can use ANYTHING as a weapon if need be.

I would also have to agree with "Shienaran". A street fighter comes prepared, so I wouldn't exactly say that you would only pick something up in the middle of a fight.

And if tai chi can teach you to kill someone with paper then imaging what a tube of antibiotic ointment can do......

Yes if you drop your weapon, anything else would do.

Agree to what?

Are you stating that "if" you were a street fighter you'd pick up the first thing and use it? what if it's an useless object? would you use it anyway?

A street fighter would make a streetwise decision, such as when, and if fighting is necessary, and picking up USEFUL objects would be an advantage.

if the street fight is just a a couple of kids that just want to bang then i would say it probably wouldn't be the wisest idea. if it was a street fight in the sense of you defending yourself from someone actually trying to take your life, the pick up the nearest what ever you can implement as a weapon and use it. in that situation, you should be more worried about that person not being able to get up and come after you.

Street fighting is classic good old brawling.
Nothing wrong with using a broken bottle, branch, house brick.
Anything to tip the odds in your favour.

I have to disagree,
youve probably never been in a real fight b4 if you think this way, the second you bend over your opponent will beat the living daylights out of you
better to take a stance and defend yourself than to even consider bending over.

No. never know what's gonna happen when you bend over to pick something up. Picking up your opponent and dropping them sounds like a more immediate response. That, or run.
