Advantix works the fastest and does both. Fleas like to bite the back half of the dog, the tailhead and back legs.
ps. Is he scooting or dragging his butt on the ground? Anal sacs can cause those symptoms as well. Ask your vet or groomer to check.

It could be a variety of different things. Could be fleas... the biting and itching is a good sign of fleas. If it was ticks you should be able to see them... but it's still a posiblilty. Could also be anal glands that need to be expressed. Could be a skin allergy. Could be something internally causing him pain. Take him to the vet to get him checked out. Then go from there.

Try Advantage, K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus... products such as hertz or store brand flea prevention do not work. If you dont see anything on your pet you need to talk to your veterinarian about your pet possibily having allergies which there is a very good chance that it does. Good luck!

I have 3 shih tzus and they all are on advantage. They have never had fleas but have had allergies and sometimes bite and scratch themselves. Take him to the vet. We have gotten various medications and medicated shampoo and it works wonders.

I love Frontline products. If your dogs have ticks, you need to remove them immediately. A tick will be a small brown disk with it's head embedded in your dog. Carefully pull them out, trying to get the head too. Put them in alcohol, soapy water, or just flush them. If a dog has numerous ticks, I just fill a small bowl with soapy water, set it down on the floor next to me and pull them out and drop them in the bowl.

Take him to the vet. It is very possible that he may have allergies. Allergies are very common in the Shih Tzu. I have five, and one of my babies have allergies. Once I changed their food over to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, the problem corrected itself. Good luck to you.
