What is the term for the end of a bone that is closest to the mid line of the body?

This question isn't clear. Are you looking for a particular bone? If so, the bone closest to the midline in the front of the body IS actually in the midline and is the sternum.

Now, if you want the name of the end of that bone which is closest to the center of the body horizontally (waist) it would called the xiphoid process.

The sternum is the bone that runs up and down between your ribs....smack dab in the center of the chest. At the bottom of that bone, you will feel a hard raised area and that is the xiphoid process. The xiphoid process starts out as cartilage but becomes bone later in life.

The bone closest to the midline in the back of the body is the spine. The end of the spine would be the coccyx or tailbone.
