I have bad eye strain every time I look at my monitor - a SamSung SyncMAster 912N
I also have 2 Apple Laptop computers that I use occasionally, and in general I don't have trouble when I use the laptops.

I've done about everything I can think of. I went to the eye doctor - they checked me over good, they gave me eye drops and all, I tried new glasses, I tried special computer glasses, actually the monitor is new and I still have tons of trouble, maybe I bought the wrong one. I;ve played with the brightness and the refresh rates, and all that. I've done about everything. I could get a new monitor but I don't know which one I should buy. I bought a anti-radiation - anti glare screen and my eyes still hurt horribly just after short use.

what can I do?

I went to the opthamologist - they were treating me for possible glaucoma - but my vision had improved quite a lot - apparently it was gone the last time they checked me.

I will call them and tell them it isn't helping and try to get more help.

I am not sure your diagnosis is correct. It sounds like you have a 2 part problem. I do think you have dry eye (computer use being the #1 cause) but I don't have enough info on you. I need your age and more symptoms. If the glasses alone and with drops are not working, you may have a common problem called convergenge insufficiency. I will not go in detail, but basically it is a muscle problem when you converge to look up close as with the computer, and it will affect your ability to focus as well. It causes fatique, some times double vsion, or the running together of words, among other things. It is an easy thing to check for and common with computer users, atorneys, accountants, students, etc. It is easily treatable, however, it is chronic. Did your eye doc test you for this? Go back and tell him glasses are not working.

You shouldn’t use reading glasses for working on the computer as it is a different distance. Make sure you wear glasses prescribed for computer work while on the computer. Its like looking a computer screen with a magnifying glass if you don’t. You should have an eye test to find out whether you need prescription glasses.
If you don't, just try turning down the brightness control on your screen.
An anti-reflection coating on glasses helps, but this only reduces the reflections (glare) caused by the lenses themselves, and does nothing by wearing non-prescription lenses with this coating. If study glasses are required each eye would have its own Rx and include correction for every aspect of your problem.
