i don't know why but all of a suden my cats are crapping on the carpet and they don't do it then they will stop for a while then they will start craping on the carpet again. does anybody know why and how i can stop it?

Wy? Because cats are lame. What can you do to stop it? Throw it in a burlap sack with a cinder block in it and throw it off the nearest bridge.

What has changed?
Don't change their brand of litter or location of the box. Keep the box CLEAN. Remove the odor of their spots with Nature's Miracle or another enzyme based cleaner.

You have to keep the little box or boxes CLEAN. I clean mine on a daily basis & each time add a little bit of fresh litter. Cats do not like using a dirty litter box. One of my cats used to meow at me until I cleaned it, then he would go in and use it. After that I started cleaning it daily. It worked!! You would not like using a filthy toilet, neither do they. Cats like to be clean. I also keep their water & food dishes cleaned regularly.

try training it to use the human toilet like on movie 'meet the parents'
