Step One: Establish your first line of defense! Invest in a high tech call screening device that's right for you. Once installed, these nifty tools eliminate most, if not all, of the aggravations caused by the barrage of unwelcome and invasive calls, with no monthly fees!
Step Two: Notify the direct marketers that you wish to be placed on their "DO NOT CALL" list. Join National and State Do Not Call Lists to make your desire for privacy known to the marketing industry.

Step Three: Be proactive and carefully manage your personal information. Information and tips are available thoughout this web-site.

A few things that have worked for me:

Tell them you are busy right now, please give me your home phone number and I'll be sure to call you at an inconvenient time!

Tell them you are lonely and want to come over and ask for their address and phone.

I keep hearing voices in my head, I think you are one of them and the others don't like it.

Who do you think you are G. W. BUSH? If this doesn't concern national security you are in big trouble!

I've fallen and I can't get up...

I'm sorry, you must have the wrong number try...(and give them the number of the no call list).

Joe's Bar...

Joe's Mortuary, you stab 'em and we slab 'em, how can I help you today...

Wait a minute, some one is at the door... and leave them on hold till they hang up... repeat as necessary.

Put them on hold for a long time then say I'm not interested.

Or, just tell them not to call, or that this is a business and you are interfering with my rights to conduct business.

Check out www.donotcall.gov
It is the website for the national do not call list.
Once you register your information, it takes some weeks but the soliciting calls should stop.
If you continue to get calls after that point- it is illegal and if you can get the company information from them you can sue.
Some people are making thousands of dollars doing this.

Tell them to stop calling you. If that doesn't work, you should ask about how you can get on some sort of list that soliciters can't call.

Go to the National Do Not Call list, I did that and my phone is silent. When I do get a call I let them know the number is on the do not call list and remove my number from their database.

I turn off the ringer and never return no calls until i want to .And all the toll free numbers I call them back, and talk mean to them, i tell them am turning in their number for harassment, and i have a list of all the times they have called.
I make them mad so they will say a lot of nasty things to me and when they get through.
I tell them have a good day and say this message has been recorded. They don't call back.

Call your phone company and they will give you a number to contact to put you on a no call list. It will take about 30 days before all the calls stop.

In our state you can get a form from the attorney general and opt out. If you don't have this in your state you just have to tell them when they call that you want to be taken off of their calling list. Unwanted calls and e-mails get on every ones last nerve. If you like to have fun you can either lead them along and after many minutes of tying up their time say no thanks...ask them to hold on for a sec and put the phone down and just leave them hanging. Or do one of my favorites and act dumb..."Do I need siding for my brick house?" Do you have magazines in braille? You get the idea. Good luck!!!

First get on the do not call list as previously stated. Then, get an answering machine. You can screen the calls and talk to those you want to.

Go to the National do not call registry and register your home telephone and cell phone numbers on there.

Even doing this, your creditors may still contact you.
