is there a required amount of time betwwn two shifts of work? also, is there a limmit on hours your aloud to work in one work day?

No and no, not by state law. If you have a union contract or some other employment contract, it can have rules that the employer is required to follow.

There are some occupations where hours are limited by federal law. If you were in one of those occupations you would know about it though.

The down time is going to depend on the industry, as will the limit question. For a normal job, no, there is no limit, but if you work more than 40 hours per week, you have to be paid overtime if you are an hourly, non-exempt employee. Some employers pay OT on anything over 8 hours a day. I did a quick search to see if I could find anything in PA, but couldn't. If you have question, I recommend contacting your DOL.

For the most part, only if you're a trucker or pilot. Those restrictions are based in Federal law and apply throughout the land, however.

Unless you guys have a union to dictate otherwise....I think it's up to the descresion of the company or boss.
