As a Christian who studies the bible every day I have come to realise that biblical faith is not what the world thinks faith is. It is not beliving in somthing that you have no evadence for as most people would look at it.
I no undertand that when the bible talks about faith it means beliving in the evadence GOd has placed there for us. It tell us in Romans one that all the Glory of God his invisable atrabuts can be clearly seen though the things God made so that man is without excuse. This to me shows me that when the time comes from man to stand in front of God there will be no reasoning with him. He will not point over to a Christian and say well that guy over there believed and he did not have the evidence why not you?
Actually we will be without excuse we will have our whole lives in front of us a those who did not chose to know God will see all the times they looked passed the evidence he put there for him and chose to set him aside.
So what faith means to me is more along the lines of understanding truth. When I see Gods evidence I have faith in it. I understand it is him and only him who is responsible for all things. Faith is the act of placing all I do in God because I know he is there, not because I think he is there.
Faith is loving God and all he does for me to prove beyond a doubt he is there.
God bless

I have learned it as:
Faith is an action, based upon belief, sustained by confidence.
There are certain words that have been helpful for me to know what faith is from the Greek:
pivsti from (3982)
Transliterated Word TDNT Entry
Pistis 6:174,849
Phonetic Spelling Parts of Speech
pis'-tis Noun Feminine
Definition
1. conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it
1. relating to God
1. the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ
2. relating to Christ
1. a strong and welcome conviction or belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God
3. the religious beliefs of Christians
4. belief with the predominate idea of trust (or confidence) whether in God or in Christ, springing from faith in the same
2. fidelity, faithfulness
1. the character of one who can be relied on
That was from a verse in the Bible ,
Matthew 8:10
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
That's the kind of faith that I am talking about.

Only through the Holy Spirit can a person believe in Jesus. "No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit" (1 Cor 12:3). The Spirit is God because "He searches the depths of God" (1 Cor 2:10-11). Only God can know God completely.
Peter proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ. Jesus said that this knowledge was revealed by "My Father who is in heaven" (Mt 16:17). Therefore, faith is a free gift from God, which makes it easy to accept and believe the truth.
Peace and blessings!

Should Faith Be Based on Reason?
"There are too many 'religious' people who become religious precisely to avoid having to think," writes the dean of a theological seminary in the United States. "They simply want to accept everything 'on faith,'" he adds.
THE implication is that most people who profess religious faith give little thought to why they believe what they do or to whether there is a reasonable basis for their faith. It is no wonder that religion has become a topic that many are reluctant to talk about.
Regrettably, such practices as using religious images and repeating prayers by rote also discourage reasoning. These practices, along with impressive architecture, elaborate stained-glass windows, and captivating music, more or less define the extent of the religious experience of millions. Though some churches claim that their faith is based on the Bible, their message of 'believe in Jesus and you will be saved' makes light of serious Bible study. Others turn to preaching a social or political gospel. What is the result of all of this?
Concerning the situation in North America, one religion writer said: "Christianity . . . tends to be superficial, [and] its adherents are poorly educated in the faith." A pollster even went so far as to describe the United States as "a nation of biblical illiterates." To be fair, these observations would also be true of other countries where so-called Christianity prevails. Many non-Christian religions likewise discourage reasoning and instead emphasize chants, ritualistic prayers, and various forms of meditation that involve mysticism, rather than logical, constructive thinking.
Yet, in their everyday life, the same people who give little thought to the accuracy or truthfulness of their religious beliefs often think other matters through very carefully. Does it not strike you as odd that the person who does extensive research just to buy a car—which one day will end up on the scrap heap—would say regarding his religion, 'If it was good enough for my parents, it's good enough for me'?
If we are truly interested in pleasing God, should we not consider seriously the accuracy of what we believe about him? The apostle Paul spoke of certain religious people of his day who had "a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge." (Romans 10:2) Such ones could be compared to a hired painter who works hard to paint a house but uses the wrong colors because he fails to listen to the owner's instructions. The painter may be pleased with his work, but would it be acceptable to the owner?
What is acceptable to God regarding true worship? The Bible answers: "This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." (1 Timothy 2:3, 4) Some may feel that it is impossible to find such knowledge among the many religions of today. But think—if it is God's will that people should come to an accurate knowledge of truth, would he unfairly conceal it from them? Not according to the Bible, which says: "If you search for [God], he will let himself be found by you."—1 Chronicles 28:9

The knowledge that Jesus died on the Cross for my sins.
The knowledge that despite our shortcomings, and our stumbles in life, the promise of salvation is always there.
The personal experiences of being in a very difficult situation...many times....yet the miracle of prayer.
The faith in good people here on Earth, sometimes despite myself, and the blessing of family, friends and history.

Faith is an action word and thats not just some churchey Christianese speak. This is what GOd tells us Faith without works is dead. Faith is having true faith in God knowing He knows best about everything, and trusting Him enough to do as He says, to live as Jesus lived, to speak truth, and tell is boldly without fear or compromise. WE dontahve a seeker friendly truth to teach. We teach truth and let the Holy spirit do the convicting. Better one to come hear full truth than a jilion to go and hear only part truth. half truth is still a lie, remember/?
Faith is about trust and obeidience. We will do as He says becuase we have faith and trust in our Lord, and we count it all as joy to do as He says, knowing He is the one that knows best . We dont obey and hate it, we love it, becuase blessings come from obedience, and disobedience still leads to curse. that hasnt changed.Faith means you will be doing things for the Lord, not to save you, cuz it does not. Only the bblood of Jesus saves us. But, we will serve Him and do all we can for Him because we love Him so much. HE loved us first and gave us true uncdontional love , and He suffered unto death for us, How can we do less than obey what He tells us to do. When we wont live as Jesus lived, we deny the power of the Cross. Because by the shed blood of Jesus, we now have the authority over sin and can live as HE lived, a sinless life of purity and holiness. not in a legalistic sense absolutely not. BUt God forbid that we count on grace to cover willfull, deliberate continued sin, that is just spitting on the cross, blashphemy. pure blashphemy ITs all in the word of God Faith is action, and its action for God because we love Him so much. Love is an action word too. huh? Isnt God good to just show us all how to live and think and be? YEP.I have incredibly strong faith, that nothing or noone can take from me. even with the loss of my first born child, I kept my faith. I knew God had His reasons and I just thianked Him for letting me have the beautiful little boy for even a little while and I know in HEaven I get Him back. thats faith.
Obedience will increase your faith and give you more truths of God. Count it all as blessings. We must stand strong for HIM, as He does for us. great question..... thanx
