I am wondering if patting the cheese on the top of a cooked pizza with dry paper towels removes any decent percentage of the fat content.

I've noticed that much of the oil from pizza cheese seems to migrate to the top of the pizza when it is cooked, so perhaps removing that oil does a little, but I don't know if it compares at all to the fat still remaining in the cheese.

Any insights?

(Additional note: I'm talking about pizza with no additional toppings. I'm a vegetarian, and I do not need to worry about how awful sausage or pepperoni is for me...)

well any grease that you remove is grease not eaten. It will add up over time, even though it may be only a few calories. If you think of the total calories you eat a year, it will add up to a lot...

Your term "decent percentage" is pretty relative. It depends on how & what you are measuring. Total oil content...probably not very much.
However, I agree with many of the above statements that any oil removed is good.
Remember, there are many oils that are not on top and easy to remove. There are oils in the crust, the paste, the toppings...etc. You are just removing the oil that has settle on top.
I think the style of pizza would reduce the oil more than soaking it up. ie (thin crust vs. pan) or (spinach and goat cheese vs double pepperoni with extra cheese)

Good luck and happy eating.

I would pat down the pepperoni first. Mozzarella chesse is acually very good for you, one of the least fat containing cheeses. Of course the law of gravity means that most of the fat from your pepperoni, cheese, or any other topping has already been soaked up into the crust.

Yes it will definitely help. How much fat you get off depends on what kind of pizza, how much cheese, and how hot the pizza is.
