There is a VA rep in your area thatt will assist you in completing tha paperwork. He is the same rep that tells you about your benefits and helps in applying for them. Just remember some are better than others in assisting you.

You can submit a request to the Board of Corrections for your service. But, you will need a ton of supporting evidence to demonstrate to the board why they made a mistake in giving you a General discharge under honorable conditions rather than an Honorable Discharge.
If memory serves me correctly the only thing you have lost with your general discharge is the right to wear an Honorable Discharge pin ("ruptured duck") in your lapel.

I'm a Vietnam Marine, I have a neighbor who finished his tour in Vietnam and was in the US stationed at Camp Pendleton. He got the urge to go AWOL and wound up in Canada for a number of years. He got a:

DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE

Years later he went to a Congressman and explained everything. It took one letter to the Sec. of the Navy, thats all.

He got a General Discharge and was awarded a 40% disability by the VA for PTSD. So don't over look the power of a Congressperson now or 20 years from now.
