Okay, in the Bible in the New Testament it is said that women should wear head coverings in church and during prayer. No one in my church does this, or in many churches I know.

Also it says that women should not speak during church... So does that mean that having women preachers is wrong?

I mean, you can't just throw out the parts of the Bible that you don't agree with, and I want to be holy, but I'm just kind of upset about these things... I want to be a preacher, and I'm a woman...

I probably should have added that I am a Lutheran. I know it is PERMITTED to be a woman pastor, but is it truly what God wants?

Actually, those are some of the most misinterpreted verses there are in the Bible, almost as bad as the whole "wives submit to your husbands" thing.

I'll explain why:

The passage in 1 Corinthians 11 that seems to condemn women not wearing head covering while praying or at church goes on to say that if a woman has long hair, IT is her "covering." Paul also then goes on to say that each church should decide for itself whether women should wear a veil or other head covering or not.

There is also another slightly different meaning given to the original Greek that makes it a little bit more clear:

Every man who prays or prophesies with long hair dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with no covering (of hair) on her head dishonors her head—she is just like one of the "shorn women."

As for the women not speaking in church, that's talking about women disrupting the service because they don't understand what's being said. It's pretty obvious that Paul DID approve of women teaching:
Romans 16:1
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant [or deaconess] of the church in Cenchrea.

He goes on in Romans 16 to name several different women who taught, and had authority in the church.

With those kinds of teachings, you have to look at the ENTIRE passage to get the gist of what's being said. Some churches have forgotten that.

These are some of the Bible verses that would not be revealed to many. So many Christians criticize Muslim women for doing just that--covering themselves--yet do not realize that their own Bible says so itself. As Muslims, we MUST believe in the Torah and the Bible; if we choose not to, then we cannot be considered Muslim. Also, you must be reading an old "version" of the Bible that hadn't deleted or replaced that verse yet with a more comforting verse so that followers wouldn't lose faith (no offense). You are so right in your last paragraph. So many Christian, no offense, ignore or do away with the parts of the Bible they'd rather not know, and simply disregard them or claim that they are not form the Bible. You would probably be thought of as weird and be persecuted if you covered your head; your fellow church members will interrogate you, and you will be the only one who knows that the Bible says to do so..the Bible has been changed many times, and God's laws were changed and editted by man, therefore adulterating the Bible. I don't mean to go off topic, but that is why Islam had to emerge. Islam would be the last religion, unable to be corrupted, as the Qu'ran has never changed since it was revealed, much unlike the Bible. That is why there are many similarities in the Torah, the Bible, and the Qu'ran, and Muslims must acknowledge those of the book (Jews, Christians). If Christianity were not corrupted and adulterated, all Muslims today would be Christians, as there would be no need for Islam to come about. Do what you think is right; if the Bible is telling you to do something, then by all means do it, even if none of your peers want to. You will be the only one who knows the truth. Good luck, may peace and blessings be upon you.

Where does it say women should cover there head in church and in prayer?
Go back and read where it talks about women are not to speak in church. Start in the beginning of that chapter, and read what is going on. The chapter deals with tongues and then says women are to keep silent in the church. The reason women where to keep quiet was because they was trying to speak tongues, and since it doesnt show the Holy Spirit had anything to do with this the women was probably jibber jabbering like you see in Pentecostal Churches.
Women was never called to be preachers.

It is against the bible to have women as preachers or pastors unless there is no qualified male to giv a talk, then that is when they are required to have a head covering out of respect for God. A head covering is not needed for all women, that was in mosaic law times and when jesus came to earth he did away with it because it was not needed.

Some things were clearly cultural, wearing scarves is more for muslims these days. If God calls you to be a preacher, preach. My church was founded by a woman, an obedient and anointed woman of God.

Contrary to what dude above said, you can preach. God loves you and if he's called you to spread His message, then join a denomination that allows women preachers. Those that don't are sexist and misogynistic.

How can anyone deny over half of the population the FULL RIGHT to participate in EVERY ASPECT of God and his message???

in the OT it was that women should cover their heads but we are saved by the blood of Jesus not our works or deeds if God calls you to preach then how could it be wrong He makes no mistakes Gods word is just as powerful when you are called by the Lord

before 300 people threw out parts of the bible simply because they were frightening (the Apocalypse of Peter). Throwing parts out because you don't agree with them seems like a lot better reason. Besides, Paul never said he was speaking for God or that his rules would have to last forever.
