If there was a guy today who claimed to be the Prophet/Messiah/Son of God/etc., there's no way in hell anyone would believe him or her. What makes now different? Do you believe in the biblical stories/Muslim prophecies just because they happened a long time ago, therefore they must be true? What is so much more believable about something that took place 2000 years ago? If Jesus came back, you'd all say He was a lunatic and you'd lock him up like that. Can we discuss this, or can someone explain please?

I mean, I really want peoples' opinions about this. I guess the question itself didn't catch anyone's eye, but I think this is a perfecly valid topic and I think many people share my opinion. You don't have to answer a direct question, you can just respond to the main idea of what I'm getting at. Come on, I lost 5 points for this!

Some people such as Batgirl think I'm attacking their beliefs. I'm simply presenting an idea, and if you don't like it, don't answer. Don't forget that I am a person of faith as well and did not mean to insult anyone or ask this question (which I am perfectly within my rights to ask) in a hostile manner. I just want an opinion, so don't take your anger out on me. You guys don't have to agree with me, but please display some decency and don't be rude. I attacked no one.

The reason Jesus has followers now has nothing to do with when he was around on earth. It has to do with people being touched and inspired by the stories that were told about him, and in some cases, like Catholicism, a belief in the ability of the Church to bring him to the people directly through the sacraments.
So, to keep it in a nutshell, the time of anything happening has nothing to do with people's beliefs.
Yes, I believe he would be rejected and not recognized now, but that really isn't important.

No, something that is old does not mean that it is true.

I believe as I do because I believe. I know it in my heart. I have no concrete proof to offer. I try to love Jesus and others. I treat others as I would like to be treated.

I am not bothering you with my beliefs, nor am I attacking yours by calling them "insane."

Why is it so important to you that I see the "insanity" of my faith? Why do you seem to wish to proselytze to me (and others)?
Is that how you would like to be treated?

I would hope that I would know my Savior when He returns.

You cannot say that ALL OF YOU would lock him up, as you do not know everyone and everything. Or am I mistaken?
Perhaps you are omniscient and I am unaware of it.
Perhaps you are omnipresent as well.

Can you please explain how you know all this?
Thanks a lot!

What are you asking? Sure if the prophecies came true or started then we would believe the person. As far as Christ you're right i would not believe Him unless He came back as the book of Revalation says, otherwise he is a false prophet/anti-christ.

The "biggest" difference why people do not believe in reliigous ICON'S is that WAYS people get killed are more HORRIBLE. The Jesus, nailed to a cross, hung to die isn't as bad as the one who comes back from war with half his/her face blown off, legs missing, or TELLS you "hell" exists because he/she has lived it. The Dogma of religions also has been PROVEN in alot of these religions also to be full of FRAUDULENT claims, with little effect for holding a following based upon FEAR TACTICS. Those who remain the faithful, are those who bother little to EXAMINE doctrines, and are just complacent individuals who want to "play it SAFE." I am a person of faith myself, but ONE who for 37 years RESEARCHED all the ancient doctrines, and BELIEVE in the TRUTHS as they were given in the BEGINNING by a LOVING, COMPASSIONATE, CARING "God." Not this "two-fold" imposter of religions that people use to excuse their bad behaviors with ONLY to repeat them over and over again. The "old" of these religions if "false" and those who wrote their "holy words" were so lacking in intelligence that they could not hide the psychological inadequacies of their God or their own "holy men." Most were "murderers," said to be chosen by "god in heaven" and most were persons who degraded WOMEN and people in general. Would an all loving God in heaven REALLY do "that ?" THIS in "itself" proves these doctrines to be FAKES...........
