I was not born when he died.
He did not die for me, neither did Julius Caesar or William Wallace, although the last could be argued.

Either Jesus was crazy and/or a liar, which would make Him NOT a good man, or He was telling the truth. Jesus Himself claimed:
1. To be the Son of God.
2. To BE God.
3. To have been sent to die for everyone's sins.
4. To be a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.
You decide. But before you do, I would consider reading as many books on the subject as you can find, including but not limited to the Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell books already mentioned.

It all comes down to whether he was God, or just a regular guy. If he was God, he could have called an anus-load of angels to get him out of it, or flown away or something, and when he stayed, that means he died on purpose. If he's not God, you're right, and he was a crazy nut not worth discussion. I think there is a lot of evidence for the resurrection, which points to divinity.
Besides, if he was trying to overthrow the Romans, his close followers would have known about it. People say that after he died, the followers maybe stole the body, or changed the message to the gospel we know now so that he wouldn't be wrong. But if they didn't really believe in the gospel message, why didn't they recant instead of all but one of the 12 disciples being brutally killed for spreading the "Jesus is God/he died for you" story.?
(And ps, all you people who are giving those first couple of people thumbs down, is it just bc they disagree with your beliefs? Bc that's so tacky. Give thumbs up if the answer is a good expression of their point of view, not just to support solidarity. It just shows you're closed-minded if you can't appreciate a well thought-out answer you don't agree with)

You right. Jesus didn't die for your sins. Jesus did two things for mankind, that to me are far more important than just his death, after all many people have died.
First, because Christ was the first resurrected being, meaning his spirit and his body we rejoined after his death, all of us will be resurrected. This is regardless of your Beliefs and actions, everyone will be resurrected.
Second, and most important, in the garden of Gethsemane Christ atoned, or took upon himself the sins of the world. Meaning that if we have faith in him and repent we can become cleansed of our sins. Unfortunately, this is conditional upon us accepting this atonement.
As far as convincing someone, that's the tough part. I've included two scriptures from the King James version of the Bible, for me the convincing has not come directly from the words of the passage but from the feelings I've felt from the Spirit of God when I've read them. I hope this helps.

I know some people don't like quotes, but read John 3:16. God loved the world, gave us His son so he could die for the sins of mankind and we will not perish, but have everlasting life. I see your thinking, but God, Jesus' father, planned Jesus' life, radical it may seem, so the events would go exactly as they did which led to His crucifixion on the cross. We try not to twist the facts to disprove God's plan. We accept it.

It was written by the prophets that a Savior would come to save his people. There is nothing in the bible that states that he had sinned against God. He was the Son of God. He died to save us form our sins .
Genesis 22:2
Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
In turn God sent his only Begotten Son to be sacrificed for our sins. God is so loving that he would and could not ask a man to do something that he himself would not do as well.
Luke 24:46
He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
I can not force you to believe that my Lord and Savior died for your sins or mine as it is written I should dust of my feet and move on
Matthew 10:14
If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.

Jesus Himself said that no man could take His life, but that He will willing lay it down. Jesus was born to die, to spill His blood for us, to give us all a chance to accept Him as their Savior, so we could be with Him for ever, after he rose again on the third day & returned to heaven to wait for the day He would come back for His own. In the Old Testament Law, the daily sacrifices were done by the spilling of the blood of an innocent lamb of God's choosing. That was how they were to relate to God then. But, Jesus was the Innocent Lamb of God's choosing who died & shed His blood for us. When Jesus ( The Messiah) came, we entered the age of Grace, and theOld Testament Law was put away. Now, we relate to God through His Son, Jesus Christ. " No man cometh unto the Father except through me ", said Jesus.

You are making an argumentative statement to evoke a response! Nice strategy. Smile!
The question is, can it be proved? I am sure you will find all sort of conflicting arguments, answers and debates on it but the bottom line then turns out to be your own personal belief.
However, I will present 2 different cases.
1) There is a story in the bible, where a crippled man climbs a window and barely manages to go to a place where Jesus is giving a sermon. Jesus tells the man, his sins are forgiven. And the crowd was shocked that he could say his sins are forgiven when forgiving sins is what God does. And Jesus said, why do you doubt it? This man can now walk! The man was able to walk and in this situation, Jesus took upon the mans sin and hence the miraculous cure!
2) I will narrate a story I heard from someone. "I had a similar experience personally. I had the privilege of meeting a great person and I went to his ashram to meditate. While I was there, I got sick. He asked me repeatedly, if he wanted me to cure him and I said no. Later that night, my fever soared to 105 degrees. I could not bear the pain or the fever inspite of medicines. He asked me again, if I wanted him to cure it. I finally gave in and said yes. Within minutes, my fever, body ache subsided. But lo and behold, he had the fever and body ache!. I was not aware of it, till the next day. I cried at his feet and asked his forgiveness because he cured me by bearing my sins. I did not say a word but instead said, if you can do this, all I ask is that my sins be postponed till I get back home. I do not wish that you bear my burden! I said this prayer in my thoughts and he answered if that is what you wish. He no longer had fever and I was able to spend a few days with him. 2 weeks later, after my trip was over, I went back home. The moment I placed my foot in my house, my fever soared to 105 degrees. I barely left my luggage there and had to go to the hospital and was hospitalized for several days!."
The moral is, for someone who has personally experienced this, it is no longer a matter of reading books but personal experience and proof. Nothing written in a book can convince him otherwise! Mary, Peter, Mark, all saw Jesus after he was crucified and the rest of the world is now debating whether it is true or not! It is true for them but we have to rely on books and belief!
My personal opinion is that when you rely on a book, it is still a belief but when you experience it, it becomes unshakeable faith. That is what is needed, personal experience not just relying on what is written! Is it not greater, if you experience it rather than just reading it?
As to your question, it is very valid. You are looking at it from a broader sense of logic not just blind belief. I commend you for that. It takes a very brave person to defy contemporary thinking.
In other words, what you are asking is how is it possible for someone to bear the sins of everyone in the world, (all including past, present and future)? I do believe he died for the sins of his disciples and other people who he helped immensely but, to believe that he can take up the sins of all of future generations is stretching it! In that case, I can lead a very sinful life...and before my stroke or even after the stroke, say, I accept Jesus and my sins are over! That would be a good strategy, if it worked. However, in reality, we only deceive ourselves and not God.
We must make the effort to be pure. It is only when we make a genuine effort to be pure, will he make the effort to wash our sins!
God bless us all!

Here's what Jesus said about it.
Matthew 20:28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 26:51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?"
John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
Mark 10:33 saying, "See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise."

Because it was all God's plan. If He didnt have any reason to die (our sins!) Jesus could have admitted that He was faking it at any time but He didn't bc He loves us. I'm not trying to impose but it may only seem like He died bc of His own sins bc you havnt accepted His gift. oh well choose for yourself wat u want to believe but i recomend reading 2 books: More than a carpenter by Josh McDowell and The Holy Bible. good luck!

You have a long way to go before you stop kicking against the goads, as Paul did when he was knocked down by Jesus on the Damascus road. Eventually, you'll be convinced, by someone or God himself.
