I like them. Not sure what makes them a "cult". The LDS church preaches family values, healthy lifestyle, respect for others, and faith in Jesus Christ. If all those are characteristics of a cult, then yeah... I would consider myself a cultist.

Wealth...there are some wealthy members, but not the majority
Political Power...there are a few in politics, but most are from Utah and Idaho
Undaunted Family Values...shouldn't everyone have this?
Polygamy...no longer practiced in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but only by some apostate groups who call themselves Fundamentalists
Joseph Smith...ahead of his time in his thinking on things such as race relations and a prophet of God
Jesus Christ...the Savior of the the world whether you believe in him or not
Utah...originally called "Deseret" but renamed by the US Government for the Ute Indians when it became a US Territory
True Prophets...Alive and well even in today's world
Golden Plates...how would Joseph Smith with his 6th grade education have known that records were kept on metal plates in stone boxes in the ground over 100 years prior to the discovery that this was common practice?
The Church is truthful and has the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Wealth: They have the whole spectrum, dirt poor - filthy rich
Political Power: Not much outside of Utah (only 50ish % of the state is Mormon)
Family Values: Good if you like the whole nuclear family thing. There is a lot of love as long as none of them are crazy self-righteous ones.
Polygamy: They don't practice it anymore. Some of the people who had plural wives back then had them so they could provide for them (widows)
Joseph Smith: Smart man who didn't have a lot of schooling. Most reports say he was a kind man, but he did have faults. Even the mormons don't think he was perfect.
Jesus Christ: My savior. Son of God. I would be nothing without him.
Utah: State full of Mormons. A lot of them take their religion for granted. Out of state mormons are a lot different.
True Prophets: We had them before, why not have them anymore?
Golden Plates: Ancient people did transcribe stuff on plates.
I think the church is a good church. The people have issues though. I don't think it is a cult because they don't emphasize cultish things like breaking away from all people who don't think like you, or having long long meetings (not just three hours, more like eight or nine) where they force a group mentality. The church does a lot of good works and humanitarian aid (Katrina and Tsunami relief for one)

Many good people, many bad situations.

I lived in Utah for several years and saw the results of the religion that aren't usually told.

I witnessed the business dealings that were justified by the church, that hurt 'heathens' and their families. Utah has the highest amount of incest cases, and shell companies of any other state.

There is a reason for that, and it isn't the weather. Mormons like to ignore the numbers, but the reality is that there is a pretty bad problem happing in Utah, and 'true' believers, and prophets should address it rather than covering it up.

It is sad, because there are so many great mormon people.

OK I'm not Mormon and that's my choice. But what I don't get is a lot of people on here say they are a cult again and again but they never say how they are a cult so how is the Mormon church a cult? that still doesnt answer my question in your own words not someones elses words and maybe someone should call your pos religion a cult how would that make you feel

You will never find out the truth about the Mormon church. They sweep their history under the carpet. Anyone wishing to join this church should first check it s history. Church leaders assure their members that the prophets of the church would never lead the church astray. Consider the following ; " It is true that the blood of the Son of God was shed for sins through the fall and those committed by men. yet men can commit sins which it (the blood of Christ can never remit" ) THIS IS ABSOLUTE BLASPHEMY. It comes from a " Christian " a Mormon "prophet " and we are told that their prophets commune with God !? Obviously Brigham Young has never read " All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth" Matt. 28: 18 KJV. Christians worship a God who is a life giving Spirit of whom the Bible says dwells in unapproachable light whom no man hath seen or can see. Mormons worship a God of flesh and bone who lives with his many wives on a planet near a star called Kolob. Ex President and " prophet " Gordon B. Hinckley when asked if the church still taught that God was once a man said he didn t know much about it - hadn t heard about it for a long time - I don know that we teach it.
He should have read the Ensign Magazine the official organ of the LDS. which sys the teaching of same is unique to this church. Because of the most recent series of the shooting of Blacks by policemen in the USA, some inquisitive Mormons are trying to find out why there was a problem in their church with the Blacks.
They will never find out. Why ? Because one of their own church leaders has stated that " the truth is not always useful." Who can trust a church like this ? The great writer Mark Twain describes the LDS church perfectly -
Quote ; " Chloroform in print.)

In the end, it really doesn't matter what I think about their church, because God will be their judge on Judgement day. I do know that Joseph Smith admitted one time to being a Free Mason, and the rituals in the Masonic Lodge resemble some things in the Mormon Church. How about that one ?

What sticks out in my mind is the fact that I had a Mormon friend when I was in high school. I invited him to my church and he came. He then told me he could not extend and invitation to his church because blacks were not allowed. I realize that has changed but it is something I will never forget. As for now, to each his own.

The test of the Prophets in Deuteronomy 18....
fail every test...none of it is Biblical....

false angels, false teachings, false Prophets, false book.....

A true prophet has the word of God for the whole world...not just a select few...

the pictures of the golden plates are the same pictures in an Erik Von Daniken book "ancient astronauts"...

celestial marriage and repopulating individual planets??sounds more like Applewhite or the Celestine prophecies......

a biblical excuse for white slavery, spousal abuse, welfare fraud and pedophiles....

Not to mention the "silent" partner shady business dealings...front companies....and of course their own hit squad...the Dannittes...

Plus the mountain housing the records of everyone on the planet.....why?? God knows who his people are, I don't think he needs a human filing system to locate people.....

What, your file is incomplete and you must go to the back of the line???
