First you must ask her parents if she can have a dog. Once you get that out the way you should surprise her and take her (well get your parents to drive you) to the local animal shelter and have her pick a dog out. Adoption fees are about $75-$100 and the dogs are already fixed (spayed or neutered) and are up to date on all routine shots which could cost up to $400 in total. It would also save you money because the average cost for a dog these days are about $750-$1000. Use Petfinder.com and type in your zip code...it will show dogs in your area for adoption...many breeds to choose from! I have a Pomeranian named Cocoa Puff and he's delightful so I would recommend that breed. Good Luck!

I would say a short haired poodle, or something small like that... but there are many factors to consider.. does she want a dog, can she/will she care for the dog, do you have room (inside and out for a dog), and prior experience... and the girl what would she like... chances are that if she is looking for a dog she has a good idea about the type of dog that she wants... take her to the dog pound and watch her as she looks around, and or the pet store... try staying away for the very expensive breeds.. they usually take more care and have special handling and care ... is the dog to me fixed... this may be a good choice if the dog is both inside and outside type... and you do not want to be overrun by dogs.... again let the girl make a few decisions, perhaps get a book from the library good luck.

Your girlfriend is 11? Or does she have an 11 year old daughter? I'm a bit confused. Anyway.....first figure out what kind of dog will fit their lifestyle best. Big dogs are not good in small spaces and some need huge amounts of exercise. Some need tons of grooming and others slobber a lot. Figure out what their needs are first, then start to look up breeds. I would go to a shelter and have them help pick out the dog if you can. The dog will not be as expensive as a dog from a breeder and it could be completely housebroken too, which is a huge plus. :) Good luck!

Ultimately it depends on the lifestyle of the person it's going to be living with. You don't want a hyperactive dog for a person that works a lot, you also don't want a lazy dog for someone who would take it jogging or hiking. You can go to the American Kennel Club website and research any breed of dog. Another suggestion is to search under 'dog compatability test' You answer these questions honestly and then they give you a list of breeds that best suite your lifestyle.
Just don't buy a puppy of any kind on impulse, and if a child is going to be around this puppy, please take the time and pay the price to get a well bred dog, there is nothing worse then having a problem and having to get rid of a dog that a child has become attached to!!!
I've owned and been around animals my whole life, I worked in a veterinarian's office for 6 years and I've seen just about everything regarding dogs and cats.
Good Luck, Hope this helps!

Well first of all, please try to adopt a dog instead of buy one from a breeder (especially if you are looking for a cheaper dog). There are countless numbers of homeless pets in pounds and shelters all around the world that need homes. Go look around at the closest pound or shelter. I would recommend a Cocker Spaniel because it is medium-sized, friendly with everyone and everything, playful, affectionate, and easily trained. I found out about them when looking for a dog for an eleven year old as well.

Wow - uhm.. 11? You can afford a DOG at 11? Woah. Unless you are an older guy dating a younger girl... which I HOPE NOT. I would suggest a yorkie, or a small dog - one from the animal shelter. They are cheaper and they desperately need a home - those poor babies... They seem to know that you saved them and cling to you for the rest of their life. They are less tempermental and have less problems. Go for a small dog from the pound or shelter- they need a home, and they are cheaper. Those poor babies.

Let the 11 year old girl pick out her dog. Perhaps a vet's office or a PAWs can give away a wonderful pet. If you prefer small to medium size dogs, then, let her know your preference.
My brother has 3 golden retrivers and they have a wonderful disposition around kids. But let her choose. Or both you and her. That might be fun.
Best wishes.

well I am 11 too so I know the perfect one.
But first try to remember if she said her favorite type of dog. If she didnt then try to go with somthing cute and fluffy not somthing big and scary. You dont want to creep her out. So maybe a small poodle or shitzu. Just somthing adorable and if she caries a purse around get her a doggie purse and a dog to fit in it. If you want to stay at a low price range then you could go to the animal shelter but if you can spend as much money as you want then go to a pet store.

well, i am a 12 year old girl and i would say that the kind of dog the girl would want would depend on her. Does she like big dogs, small dogs, loud, or quiet ones. you should ask her, but no right out loud. do it in a code sort of way. but also, dogs are actually really expencive. like a couple thousand dollars, or more. but good luck with it
